I'm not sad because there will be the biggest building in the world in its place. (which drives the Islamokazis crazy)
Such is the nature of America, our freedom loving spirit lives inside us.. not a structure or even the Capitol or White House
They dried to destroy our spirit and found that they made it stronger than ever.

After 9/11/01 someone put together a slide show of scenes from the tragedy along with a song. It was so beautiful and I can't believe I didn't bookmark it. Does anyone happen to know where to find it?

Those lights are stronger than anything I have ever seen. It makes me feel sad as well, but proud at the same time.
God Bless America. God bless those braved souls that died saving lives.

Wow, post 32, with the beams shining on the clouds.......
It vividly portrays the ascension to their new existence, of all those souls at once!
Thanks for all the great shots, but that one especially.

Dump the stupid monument/development plans. The WTC monument should be open space and those lights, lit every night forever.Yes, the hell with the citizens and businesses of New York City, and specifically Lower Manhattan. People in Nevada need their jingoism!
The WTC complex was THIRTY PERCENT of Lower Manhattan's office space. Without rebuilding, Lower Manhattan is forever decimated. The businesses down there are suffering to this day.
Believe it or not. The people in the neighborhood of the lights complained and demanded the lights be put out.
False. The plan was ALWAYS for it to be done every night for about a month and then to end it. (Although you are right about reduced quality of life in the immediate area being part - PART - of the reason it was intended as temporary from the start. Let me install 88 searchlights, each containing a 7,000-watt bulb, in your front yard, and let's see how long you and your neighbors think it's really gorgeous.)
I don't know where tonight's "Towers of Light" are located, but the original ones last year weren't even at Ground Zero. They were a couple blocks off to the side.

They could put the permanent lights up on a pole or a tower and it won't disturb anyone that way.

So? They are close to the original location of the towers. The lights really restore something that has been missing around here for awhile

Sorry, I must have made a typo before. I tried it again and it worked. I can't thank you enough. That is the most stunning memorial I've seen anywhere. It makes me cry big time. This time I have saved it to my favorites.

The better monument in MHO, would be rebuilding them as they were, but a story taller for bravado.

They could put the permanent lights up on a pole or a tower and it won't disturb anyone that way. Can't be done. Well, okay, it could, but the logistical complexity and monetary expense of getting that much electrical power up high enough to run the lights far outweighs the potential benefits. (One of the original plans was to put the lights on top of the Embassy Suites Hotel, but they couldn't figure out a way to get 3100 amps and 620,000 watts of power up to the roof. They ended up being put on scaffolding all of two stories high.)
