The Fisher House program is a unique private-public partnership that supports America's military in their time of need by providing homes close to a loved one during the hospitalization for an unexpected illness, disease, or injury.

There are currently 31 houses located on the grounds of every major military medical center and several VA medical centers. These houses will play a critical role in caring for casualties from Operation Iraqi Freedom. Donations will be used to help meet the cost of lodging for a family whose loved one was injured in Operation Enduring Freedom or Operation Iraqi Freedom. There is a limit to the number of families who can stay in a Fisher House and program is committed to help provide lodging for families who must find commercial lodging, because the Fisher House is full.

You think you're hot?
Our military forces in Iraq sweat it out in 130 degree heat everyday!
Cool Our Troops is a non-profit effort to 'Cool' our troops in Iraq. They are raising funds to send personal misters to 50,000 military personnel serving in Iraq. The misters are portable, no batteries or electricity required, and rely on evaporation to cool surrounding temperatures by 20-30 degrees.

A PRAYER OF PROTECTION

The light of God surround you
The love of God enfold you
The power of God protect you
The presence of God watch over you
Wherever you are,God is,
And all is well.
Amen.

Bless This House

Bless this house O Lord we pray;
Make it safe by night and day;
Bless these walls so firm and stout,
Keeping want and trouble out:
Bless the roof and chimneys tall,
Let thy peace lie over all;
 Bless this door, that it may prove
ever open to joy and love.

Bless these windows shining bright,
Letting in God's heav'nly light;
Bless the hearth a'blazing there,
with smoke ascending like a prayer;
Bless the folk who dwell within,
keep them pure and free from sin;
Bless us all that we may be
Fit O Lord to dwell with thee;
Bless us all that one day we
May dwell O Lord with thee.

Good morning to everyone! I've got a little time to hang out this cold Saturday morning.

It IS cold here...the winds are at 60 mph outside, and it is pouring rain. As a matter of fact, I heard someone reacting to the news reports of Hurricane Isabel on TV say,"That's every DAY here!".

Which is NOT to minimize what Mojo and others are going through. I truly hope everyone affected came through safely. I went through Hurricane Georges (winds: 130 mph) when it scoured N.A.S. Roosevelt Roads and most of Puerto Rico in '98. I was almost decapitated by a flying window, and the devastation was unbelievable. It's just to say that we here in Iceland see conditions similar to those of a hurricane almost weekly. And Winter isn't even here yet!

Mrs. Cut is doing quite well, and is patently enjoying being a stay-at-home mom. She's even taken to remodeling the den in our home in Florida, so I can enjoy it when I return home. Mini Cut has gained four pounds since his birth in July, and has even begun to teethe. She sends me pictures of him frequently, and he is the perfect image of a healthy, happy baby. She says he smiles and laughs a lot. So, I guess I've got a big, jolly son on my hands! I wish I could see him in person. I damn near cry when I see his pictures. God, I miss them both.

The pets (or, The Fuzzy Ones, FOs as we call them) are doing well. Beagle-Cut hasn't consumed any more soap, and is, according to the vet, almost free of the heartworms which he had when he came to us. He even staged an "escape" from our backyard a few weeks ago, to join some neighborhood kids in a pickup football game. Mrs. Cut, however, was not amused at having to chase him all over the neighborhood!

The Countess, my great Camaro SS, is currently in the care of my in-laws in Maine. My father-in-law is thinking of driving her down to Florida so Mrs. Cut can have her to use, thus avoiding having her just sit there depreciating. I think he just wants a roadtrip in her!

But, enough about me. How are all my FRiends doing?

1378 The Great Schism in the Catholic Church began. It was touched off when Gregory XI died, shortly after returning the papal seat from Avignon, in France, to Rome. Continuing for nearly 40 years (until 1417), the Schism at one point produced three concurrent popes!

1947 English apologist C.S. Lewis wrote in a letter: 'Those who suffer the same things from the same people for the same Person can scarcely not love each other.'
1948 American missionary Jim Elliot -- eight years before his martyrdom at the hands of the Auca Indians of Ecuador -- penned in his journal: 'I am Thine at terrible cost to Thyself. Now Thou must become mine -- as Thou didst not attend to the price, neither would I.'

Good Morning everyone! Good Morning troops! Here is my humor attempt for today.

A teacher was giving a lesson on the circulation of the blood. Trying to make the matter clearer, he said: "Now, students, if I stood on my head the blood, as you know, would run into it, and I should turn red in the face."

"Yes, sir," the boys said.

"Then why is it that while I am standing upright in the ordinary position the blood doesn't run into my feet?"

A little fellow shouted, "'It's because yer feet ain't empty."

Perhaps the most unknown of the unknown, President Chester Arthur came from relative obscurity, became President by way of a heinous event, accomplished little and never had a chance to seek a second term.
