The Dems have only one chance to hold on to the governorship: That is for Davis to resign his office and hope that with Bustamante as the new governor, that less than 50% of the folks would vote for recall. It is probably too late for that, but it is the only hope that they have. If Davis gave a damn about the party or the state, he would resign immediately rather than be tossed out on his ear.

This is going to sound dumb, but don't donors usually want to see results for their cash? I mean, why donate to someone like Cruz who is dropping like a rock with a week to go and who is not even out campaigning? Talk about a waste of money!

He is in deep do dah for future job growth. Think about it. The Rats threw him overboard, and the pubbies wouldn't want him working for them (maybe).
The only choice he has left after this is over is to be a political analyst on CNN.....

If Davis had resigned before the recall was certified (in July, as I recall,) there wouldn't even be a recall. I wonder how he justifies that.

Cruz and Gray despise one another. They are about as chummy as Danton and Marat were with Robespierre.

Davis still has a shot. Many Hispanics, legal and illegal are only voting for recall because they want their Mecha guy in office. If he drops out, they stick with Davis. If Bustamante does not drop out, he faces a defeat from which he will never recover. Mecha man has two bad choices, but it seems that the least egregious is to drop out.

Bustamante, meanwhile, is frantically trying to raise $1 million ... but is getting stiff resistance from wealthy Democrats. ... the Davis camp has been urging Democratic donors not to give to the Bustamante campaign. Do I smell a very nasty Clinton pulling strings behind the scenes here?

The Davis camp is encouraging Bustamante to withdraw from the race. According to sources, Davis polls show that if Bustamante pulls out, support for the recall would drop ten points.
OTOH, if Davis resigned, Bustamante would take over the governor's position and the recall would be off. No chance for Republican to win anything. (Assuming there is some logic to California's rights of succession.)
Keep bickering you losers.

But if Buz Crustamonte drops out, who will be Governor of Aztlan? Schmarnold Arznegger will.
Everything must be provided for the people.

I love it. The Democrats are getting ready to devour each other. Don't worry. After Schwarzenegger wins they'll be happy.
Imagine -- a Republican enacting all their polices. Life gets no better for the California liberal elite.

Many Hispanics, legal and illegal are only voting for recall because they want their Mecha guy in office. If he drops out, they stick with Davis. But will they show up to vote for the white guy? Not anywhere near the numbers that they would have if voting for Bustamante.

How do you say "Screw you, Boss" in Spanish? In a very appropriate "Informal Mexican" Spanish...missing letters available at any intersection in Greater LA...or look above for a suffix.
