CONTROVERSY: Texas A&M Gives Ted Kennedy 'Bush Award for Public Service';

Posted on 10/04/2003 7:03:11 AM PDT by Texaggie79

COLLEGE STATION, Texas, Oct. 3, 2003 - The George Bush Presidential Library Foundation today announced that United States Senator Edward M. Kennedy would receive the 2003 George Bush Award for Excellence in Public Service at a dinner ceremony held at the Bush Library Center on the Texas A&M campus on November 7. Former President Bush will present the award to the Massachusetts Democrat, who will join former Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev and former German Chancellor Helmut Kohl as Bush Award recipients. The award will be presented in a ceremony at the Library Center following a 5 p.m. address by the Senator at Rudder Auditorium.
Senator Kennedy has represented Massachusetts in the United States Senate since he was first elected in 1962 to fill the seat vacated by his brother, President John F. Kennedy. Since then, he has been re-elected seven times, and is now the second most senior member of the Senate.
Throughout his career, Senator Kennedy has fought for issues that benefit the people of Massachusetts and the nation - particularly the effort to bring quality health care to every American.
"During his remarkable career spanning over four decades, Senator Kennedy has consistently and courageously fought for his principles - and has rightly earned the respect of his Senate colleagues on both sides of the aisle," said Bush Foundation Executive Director Roman Popadiuk. "His commitment to excellence in public policy and his devotion to public service serve as an inspiration to all Americans and make him a superb recipient of the Bush Award."
Today, Senator Kennedy is active on a wide range of issues - including all aspects of homeland security and national defense, restoring economic growth and helping the unemployed, improving elementary and secondary schools and making colleges more affordable. He is the ranking Democratic member on the Senate's Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee, and a member of the Senate Judiciary and Armed Service Committees. He is also a founder of the Congressional Friends of Ireland and a trustee of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C.
Kennedy is the youngest of nine children of Joseph P. Kennedy and Rose Fitzgerald Kennedy, and is a graduate of Harvard and the University of Virginia Law School. His home is in Hyannis Port, Massachusetts, where he lives with his wife, Victoria Reggie Kennedy, and children, Curran and Caroline. He also has three grown children, Kara, Edward Jr., and Patrick, and four grandchildren.
The George Bush Award for Excellence in Public Service recognizes an individual's or group's dedication to public service at the local, state, national or international levels. The award underscores President Bush's long service and commitment to public service.
Recipients of the George Bush Award for Excellence in Public Service receive a custom crystal sculpture designed by Eric Hilton for Steuben of New York, as well as a monetary prize.
This is ticketed event. Free tickets will be available at the Texas A&M MSC Box Office, The Bryan/College Station Eagle at 1729 Briarcrest Drive, WTAW Radio at 2700 Rudder Freeway South and KBTX Television - 4141 East 29th Street.

The Bush family illustrating the hypocrisy of Teddy. Knowing that the bloated one won't turn down the chance for a photo op and a nice shiny collectable, even if George is Teddy's own personal devil.

Women & no Corps.
Change is painful, isn't it? Personally, I'll thank A&M for changing enough to let me in. My family had no money for me to go away to university. The education I received at A&M has allowed me to provide for me and mine. (D$#n women!)

I'll thank them for putting the "World Headquarters" off campus, considering the shortage of space on campus. BTW, where do you think those offices should be, in a hay barn?

You know, I can't explain why the library foundation would offer an award to Teddy, but I think your explanation is nothing but a cheap shot.

Grrrr.........who in the heck sits on this Foundation and who appoints them? Personally, I would prefer Ted Kennedy never set foot in Texas. We should institute some sort of visa process so we can pick and choose who we allow to visit. For instance, yesterday John Kerry was in Texas. I tell you, this is some sort of Massachusetts plot to take over!

Cinder block is practical & with steel supports & the proper roofing, can last a lifetime. Many businesses do well in such structures. One might also presume such a simple facility would lead to less grandiose thought & behavior.

I am so glad you were able to attend. Sorry it was the only place available in Texas for women who need to change the world. I actually did think the whole controversy was amusing-until my children went there & studied in detail what has happened to a formerly strong, decent institution. Even my formerly left-leaning daughter came away regretting what she saw DIE right in front of her. She really did get there just in time to see the last cultural wave break. The last bonfire & the collapse, she was inside the school administration & had extensive views of entire departments. Shocked, literally, by what she saw, she left her cushy job ( & some cushy future ) for other environs. Too bad. She would have actually been good for the school-as an employee. She means business when she goes to work. Many things which 'change' in our culture are too bad. Our culture shows the wear & tear.

I really am glad you got what you wanted. Change. What ever happened with the fellows ( CT's ) who beat the BQ with a baseball bat? About 18 months ago, I recall. I'll bet he has come to appreciate the wonderful things that have changed at Texas A&M.

At one graduation, two years back, the former admiral ( sorry, I flushed his name )-guys on the Bush Library Board-gave the speech & all he said was, "go to work for the government". Really. That was his speech. It was eloquent & pleasant. Don't go to work-go to work for the government-in just those words.

What an institution.

Note that Fat Teddy is being given this award by the "The George Bush Presidential Library FOUNDATION."

This is typical of how foundations behave. A founder donates money, a board is formed, professional foundation geeks are hired, and first thing you know they're all doing the exact opposite of what the donors intended. Almost all foundations turn liberal, sooner or later, because almost all the professional foundation flunkies are liberals.

It happened to the Ford Foundation. Henry Ford II quit the board in disgust. Now it's happening to the Bush Library Foundation, and the founder isn't even dead yet. GHWB was given a choice. Either he could swallow his feelings, put on his black tie, and present the award, or he could denounce his own foundation, go away mad and refuse to have anything more to do with it. It's absolutely typical.

Some interesting names on the full Board of Trustees.

Among the Trustees are Arnold Schwarzenegger, Gerald Parsky, and Jack Valenti.

Hmmm.

It's all a big mistake; a little adult website, named Texas S&M, is giving the Tub a "Bush Award for Pubic Service."

That is a very interesting list. There are some good folk on there, and there are some Clymer-types.

Well, sorry-- didn't mean to offend. The comment just didn't go down well with me. No big deal.

This is Kennedy's reward for viciously snarling about conspiricies hatched in Texas?

Note to self: to recieve awards and adulation stoop to Kennedy's level of backstabbing and back-room coercion. Stop earning things by working for them; that's for suckers.

Good grief.

Kennedy to receive Bush Award for Excellence [Full Text]COLLEGE STATION -- U.S. Sen. Edward Kennedy will receive the 2003 George Bush Award for Excellence in Public Service.

The award, which recognizes an individual's or group's dedication to public service at the local, state, national or international levels, will be presented to the Democratic lawmaker at a dinner ceremony Nov. 7 following a speech by Kennedy at Texas A&M University's Rudder Auditorium.

Former President Bush will present the award to Kennedy, who will join former Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev and former German Chancellor Helmut Kohl as recipients.

Kennedy has represented Massachusetts in the United States Senate since he was first elected in 1962 to fill the seat vacated by his brother, President John F. Kennedy. Since then, he has been re-elected seven times, and is now the second most senior member of the Senate.

Recently, Kennedy has been one of current President Bush's harshest critics over the Iraq war.

Former President Bush has the sole discretion on who receives the award, said Penrod Thornton, deputy director of the George Bush Presidential Library Foundation. Thornton said he doesn't think the award is anything other than a way for Bush to honor Kennedy.

"Knowing President Bush, it was more about personalities and contributions of the individuals and it didn't have anything to do with politics," Thornton told the Bryan-College Station Eagle for its Saturday editions.

Recipients of the Bush Award receive a custom crystal sculpture designed by Eric Hilton for Steuben of New York, as well as a $20,000 cash prize. [End]

I am not grumpy-just honest about what I know about the education scam. I find nothing surprising at the Bush Library or the University itself.

Billions spent on a bloated intstitution, mindless left-wing drivel spilled forth to idiots who should not have gone beyond high school, glamorous athletics which axchieve only noise-why should anyone be happy about the hollow & false education system?

Maybe we have learned what most have not ( by virtue of having several children pass through the system & having family 'inside', working for the institution ).

The price for what passes for higher education is obscene & those who run these wasteful shams have about played out their game. The tuition & operating costs have grown to a level which draws unwanted attention. All of this was foretold ( to me ) by a now retired prof of finance, 30 years ago-he was not grumpy-just honest about the education lobby-his phrase for the hogs who feed at the public trough. He had studied them up-close for several decades.
