Have you ever heard of this horrible animal plague spawning on the west coast?

No I havn't. There is a disease carried in the feces of a certain species of field mice that is pretty nasty, but I havn't heard about a rabbit pathogen. I think Jimmy Carter got attacked by one of those crazy rabbits, IIRC.

Don't know what to aim for at a head on shot.

With a pistol and charging bear, I beleve the most effective placement would be the spot slightly above the line between your eye and ear on your dominant side.

A scatter-gun and pea-shooter against a bear?

Not necessarily a 'scatter gun.'

I would think they would use slugs, especially if they were less than 20 feet! Twelve guage slugs would tear a big hole in a bear.

Hopefully the officers received combat pay.

Slumming. ;)

I've been telling you that there's more to the Darwin Awards than just a funny title.

Once he was filmed crawling along the ground singing as he approached a sow and two cubs.

I think the song was "Running Bear".

Nope, it was "There's Trouble Bruin"

That is the core and essence of my plan also, should a black bear wish to contest ownership of the blueberry patch. I am satisfied that a 12 gauge magnum slug at close range has enough power for a sidearm to impress a black bear. That is the first shell in the stack. Just don't aim for the head, aim for the chest. The second shot would be the 00 to the face and then the loads alternate similarly. No pistol that you would want to carry would even approach that kind of power, it's about twice what the 44 mag or the 45 Winmag Grizly has.

Suicide by bear? Un-be-lie-va-ble...

Teddy Bear's Picnic

If you go out in the woods today
You're sure of a big surprise.
If you go out in the woods today
You'd better go in disguise.

For every bear that ever there was
Will gather there for certain, because
Today's the day the teddy bears have their picnic.

Chorus:
Picnic time for teddy bears,
The little teddy bears are having a lovely time today.
Watch them, catch them unawares,
And see them picnic on their holiday.
See them gaily dance about.
They love to play and shout.
And never have any cares.
At six o'clock their mommies and daddies
Will take them home to bed
Because they're tired little teddy bears.

If you go out in the woods today,
You'd better not go alone.
It's lovely out in the woods today,
But safer to stay at home.

For every bear that ever there was
Will gather there for certain, because
Today's the day the teddy bears have their picnic

TO CHORUS

Every teddy bear, that's been good
Is sure of a treat today
There's lots of wonderful things to eat
And wonderful games to play

Beneath the trees, where nobody sees
They'll hide and seek as long as they please
Today's the day the teddy bears have their picnic

TO CHORUS

Unbelievably, the guy says the he is a vegetarian and the bear will sense that he means it no harm.

Oh the bear will sense that he means it no harm all right. Did someone explain to him that to a carnivore vegetarian = Food? Wild animals put edible things in one of two categories. Thing you can eat with no fear and things that will put up a fight if you try to eat them.

Far better to be a carnivore and have them think that you mean them harm. Just don’t corner them.

Actually a 22 cal or 25 cal is best for bears. You can concel it from the rest of your group and pull it out if the bear charges. You then shoot the person right next to you right behind the knee and then run like hell. The bear will normally eat the slowest person in the group.

Why have a hassle at the airlines with a gun in your luggage (announcing at the counter, red tag, passing security, separate ammo, etc)? Use a ball peen hammer on your "friend's" kneecap.

Yes, and our friend seems to be a serious contender.

Why worry about any of this?

Just feed them willing leftists in sufficient quantities on a regular basis. If they ever are hungery when you encountering them, they won't likely associate you with food since you won't smell of body odor, dope and patchouli oil.

Hmmm...you may have a plan. An "Alaska Getaway" with a big, deep discount for Malibu residents. Do you think Barbra Steisand would sign up?

This hippie's first mistake was going to Alaska instead of Canada. The Canadian bears are much more firendly and many actually bring Labatt's beer to the campsites.

Yup. Yosemite, which is loaded with bears, has a sign near the front door basically saying no weapons of any sort.

Course I always have a pack with me when I wander around, so as long as you don't drink in public or make a nuisance, you're ok. I've always found rangers to be very helpful (I usually have a garbage bag with me to pick up junk left by the croutons)
