Here it comes right now.

"Part of what you have heard and read in the past week is correct. I am addicted to prescription pain medication. I first started taking prescription painkillers 5-6 years ago following spinal surgery. The surgery was unsuccessful and I continue to have severe pain in my lower back and neck...two herniated discs. Rather than opt for additional surgery for these conditions I chose to treat the pain with prescribed medication...turned out to be highly addictive. Have tried to break my dependence...twice checked in. Recently agreed with doctor about next steps. After broadcast check myself in to treatment center for 30 DAYS to once and for all break hold of medication. Array of guest hosts.

I'm no role model and I refuse to let anyone think I'm doing something heroic or great here. There are people you never hear of...who don't resort to any escapes, they just face it. They are the role models. I'm not a victim, I'm not going to portray myself as a victim...I take full responsibility for this problem. At the present time the authorities are conducting an investigation. I have been asked to limit public comments till investigation has come clean. The stories you've read contain inaccuracies and distortions and I'm going to clear those up when I'm finally free to speak about it."

You know, I'd define "addiction" as taking the medication after not needing it.

If you've got chronic pain and NEED the medication every day, then that's not an addiction. IMHO.

(by the way, I've had a herniated disc and surgery myself. Luckily the surgery was successful and my daily pain is tolerable without meds. Before the surgery the pain was excruciating. I cannot imagine living with that every day. I feel sorry for Rush.)

Gee it takes that long to get the real story
I missed the Friday broadcast and waded through all of this when it should be at the top. I am not sure what all rush said but I was looking for a direct quote.
Thanks
