Talking about drug addiction being an illness is typical leftwing victimization.

Now, I do know doctors are to blame sometimes too, since they get people hooked on stuff when they should not. However, the primary blame goes to the addict for getting addicted in the first place. And like has been said, Rush did not open up to us on his own, he did it when forced.

Most addicts do not "come clean" on their own. Rush is human. And actually, Rush seeked help 2 times before this...but because he's such a public figure he was not able to come (or wouldn't let himself) come clean with everyone else. This is awesome because now that its in the open, his odds of recovery are 100x's better.

I don't agree. I think there is a MASSIVE difference between taking meds for pain and taking meds to get high.

One is done in order to escape reality. The other is done to be able to get -back- to a semblance of reality. One is done to increase pleasure, the other to remove pain.

The difference is as obvious as building a wall to keep people in and building a wall to keep people out.

There is a clear difference here. I'm for the legalization of marijuana, but to try and use this as a justification for it is ridiculous. There is a MASSIVE difference between recreational addiction and getting hooked on a highly addictive pain medication prescribed by a doctor.

The pro-drug lobby will hurt itself tremendously if they push this point, because I think this will be obvious to everyone.

Well Monty22, I hope you never have to face this. I really do.

You do know that the brain chemistry fo the addict is altered? You understand about receptor cells and neurotransmitters and all that jazz, right?

So the addict IS ill, does not have normally functioning brain chemistry. ANd you can't just WILL yourself out of it.

There is a question, though. Why do people RISK addiction. That's a different story.

...Rush did not open up to us on his own...

No, he didn't confess without a little 'encouragement'.

As I said earlier...You may be a piece of work, but you're a consistent piece of work.
