Paul also said that he would use "all means" to bring the gospel to all men so that some might be saved.

Oh really? Let's try this:

TONIGHT: PORNO AND FREE BOOZE!

Somehow I don't think that's what the Holy Spirit had in mind.

The first mention of Arminianism on this thread was in post 12 where Arminianism was blamed for the Age of Enlightenment.

But the stage was set in post 10, and you know it....

You howl when O-Henry claims to be an Arminian who loves Osteen, but when I mention Osteen, you cry foul?

I wasn't crying foul. Just merely pointing out, as as Marlowe, that you and Dr. E brought the slams against Arminianism into this. I've had quite the civil discussion with ItsOurTimeNow

As for O-Henry. Corin Stormhands thinks O-Henry got his lying, trolling backside banned.

If you're impressed with the numbers in the harvest....

Frankly I'm not too concerned with the numbers in the Harvest. God has already stated that the Harvest is plenty, so I expect the numbers to reflect that truth. God also said that the laborers are few. So with that in mind, you would expect that the few laborers will garner most of the Harvest. IOW those pastors and ministers who concentrate their efforts on bringing the lost to Christ will reap the bulk of the Harvest.

Is it any wonder that many of the churches who have a strong evangelical outreach quickly become mega churches? I don't think that is a coincidence. It is the promise of God that the Harvest will be plentiful. It is also the observation of God that few are willing to actually work the fields and bring in the Harvest.

Hmmm, so it seems. Proud of yourself?

For what? Pointing out that he was lying?

FWIW, I wasn't there when he was banned.

Possibly. Arminians can't afford butlers.

Neither can this Calvinist. we do have a cleaning lady two hours a week. My wife insists that since she is homeschooling 2/3s of our kids we need one.....

But the stage was set in post 10, and you know it....

So getting people in the door so that they can be exposed to the gospel message is exclusively an Arminian goal?

Well then that would make Calvin (who supported the Geneva law mandating that all adults must attend Church on Sunday) a hyper-Arminian.

No, the stage was set in post 12 and 17. Don't act like a New Orleans mayor and try to shift the responsibility for turning this thread into an Arminian bashing natural disaster onto Corin. He didn't start it. And you know it.

>>" to bring the gospel to all men so that some might be saved.<<

So long as the gospel is being brought, and brought correctly. Not taking the road of least resistance or teaching a man-pleasing doctrine just to keep them entertained.

20,000 people can be taught lies and feel-goodism, or 10 can be taught sound doctrine. Quality over quantity and such.

My wife says the same thing since she's working two jobs and caring for her mom (who lives with us).

I don't believe I have a problem with "getting people in the door" with gyms or pools. The question becomes what do you do or say to them once they are in the door? Are ministers concern that if they preach a repentance message people won't come back? Is it just about what Jesus can do for you rather than knowing that you are without hope and lost unless you throw yourself towards the cross of Christ?

To be honest many churches today (large and small) worry about keeping people rather than preaching a message of repentence. They look at church rolls and building fund dollars. If the church isn't growing or expanding then there must be something wrong with ........... (fill in the blank). And, besides, someone has to pay for the maintenance on the gym or pool. You know this is true as well as I do. Not in every case but in most cases.

I was reminded today that in Acts 2 all Peter told the crowd was that they crucified the Lord. Once they understood the crowd asked Peter, "What must we do to be saved?" Peter simply told them to repent and believe in the Lord Jesus and, as they say, the rest is history. No altar call. No pleading. No saying God would give them a summer home or that He loves them and wants the best for them. Peter just told them they crucified Him.

Peter wasn't interested in keeping them around. Only that they recognize themselves for what they are-sinners in need of a Savior.
