The only Latin Masses I know of are the SSPX in Farmingville, and the Indult held in the Chapel of St. Pius in Uniondale. Tellingly, the Indult is held in the very place the diocese houses the priests accused of abuse.

I think it illustrates beautifully what the bishop thinks of the traditional Mass.

I'd love to know where you attend the Mass said by the retired priest. I'm in Smithtown, so I can't be too far from you...

Regards,

I live in the town of Brookhaven.

Hi neighbor!

I did a Google search and found a Latin Mass that is being said by a retired priest.

Fr. Murphy? He has said mass at our chapel.

I used to go to Depaw in the '70s & '80s. I understand the "faithful" go to watch him on video

Many of them come to St. Michael's now.

Of course, Bishop Murphy would rather get cancer before he would allow another Latin Mass in his Diocese

Actually I just heard a rumor that Bishop Murphy is planning on inviting the FSSP into the diocese, I can't confirm it though. I would suspect it is not due to his "love" for the TLM though.

P.S. Bishop Murphy jerked his hand away when I went to kiss his ring....and I am of no relation ;-)

(Too Many darn Murphys out there)
Yes, Fr. Murphy; he's a very down to earth priest and I'm lucky to have made his aquaintance. The Lord does work in strange ways. I am sure that what you heard about SPPX is just that, a rumor.I'm glad I don't have to accept "Bishop" Murphy as my bishop...

I poked around too, and came up with these:

Ave Maria Chapel 210 Maple Ave.
Westbury, NY 11590; www.latinmass-ctm.org

Fr. James Pereda
St. Pius X Residence Chapel
1220 Front St., Uniondale, NY 11553

Fr. John Pfeiffer
St. Michael the Archangel Church
900 Horseblock Rd., Long Island
Farmingville, NY 11738

I have a friend from that neck of the woods who is still amazed that there are so few venues amidst so many people. As for me, I'm even more amazed that there are so few venues where my friend and I live, in Los Angeles. Here in the San Fernando Valley, there are precisely two (or three)locations for Traditional Latin Masses on Sundays, that is, if you want to exclude the places where there are questions
about the validity, etc.

Thank you. Those are the same locations that I've been able to find. I forgot to mention the Ave Maria Chapel, mostly because they are listed as "independent."

There is also an SSPV chapter here on Long Island, and I even attended a Mass there, before I knew that they are REALLY Sedevacantists. I remember being terribly disappointed to learn this, as I truly enjoyed the Mass...

It is amazing to me that such large dioceses as yours and mine can't seem to ensure generous numbers of TLMs.

Regards,

The Ave Maria Chapel was led by Fr. De paw, who passed away a few months ago. No one has taken over as he left no means for a successor. Please enlighten me on the meaning of Sedevacantists...

"Sedevacant" = "the Seat is empty," that is, the Seat of Peter is empty.

Sedevacantists do not believe that the Pope is the legitimate successor to Peter. In fact, they do not believe any Pope after John XXIII was legitimate (and I'm not even sure how they feel about John XXIII, to tell you the truth).

Additionally, their financial record gives me a bit of the willies...in short, I don't trust 'em. Something strange going on there, if you ask me.

Regards,

The Internet demons ate my response to you, murph.

I'll try to replace it later.

Okay. Here we go.

I was saying that you guys are very fortunate to have an open forum like this with these speakers. I was asking if you plan on making tapes of it, and if so, that I'm interested in buying a full set.

Curiously, I was just in the library, and was walking down the isle and saw a book on Darwin lying on a shelf. On the back cover it announced that Evolution has been a hot topic of sicentific interest and discussion, and continues even to day to be as captivating as the front page headlines. I suspect a book published more recently would not be so bold and confident in its tone. This one was published 9 years ago, 1996.

As of the past 4 years, "Evolution" is losing out. When debates were scheduled at universities, the proponents gradually stopped showing up when it became obvious that they are losing so severely. Have you heard any recent news on that front?

No I have not, but if they tape the lectures on Nov. 5th, I'll be sure to let you know how to get a copy of them.

The sermon of Fr. Pfeiffer's, (one of the scheduled speakers at the forum) for last Sunday, can be heard here:

The topic of the forum is shown as Evolution and Our Age.

In yesterday's L.A. Times, column one (Nov. 5th, too), prof. Michael Behe is featured in a coverage of the Federal Court proceeding he just went through. He's the author of Darwin's Black Box (1996), which demonstrates the error of the commonly held belief that Evolution is based on scientific evidence. He's writing a sequel to the book. Behe went to Catholic schools and his several children have been homeschooled by his wife, while he's been a college professor. His colleagues are divided in favor of his books and opposed to them, but he advises those who support him to not let themselves be known as supporters until they attain tenure, like he has.

It's a lot like the state of the TLM, in a way, that a priest who is openly supportive of it would today never be consecrated bishop. Only the most liberal priests are promoted, and the traditional ones are ignored, or worse,
"cut loose" to be on their own.

It would be even more difficult for a priest to be secretly devoted to the TLM until he "attains tenure" (or is consecrated bishop) in the ecclesiastical realm, than it would be for a scientist to privately defend intelligent design (which Behe claims is not the same as defending creationism) until he's protected by tenure in the collegial realm.

Another parallel can be made among nominees for the SCOTUS. How difficult is it for someone to be privately opposed to the ritual slaughter of innocent children until AFTER he's protected by election to SCOTUS?

Which brings me to the "war on terror." What moral right does a nation have to engage in such a thing when the daily carnage from the terrorism of aborted children exceeds the death toll from 911? Every day, the terrorism we allow here in our own country leaves corpses behind more numerous than all the dead of the day we hold up as the day that was different. DIFFERENT? When we come to our senses, we might recognize it as just a day with more of the same.

The status of Evolution, the status Traditional Latin Mass, and the status of the "war on terror" are more closely related than first they might seem, without a clearer perception of what is really going on.
