Us Catholics must be pretty dumb to actually write the New Testament and then wait centuries to blatantly contradict our own Scriptures!

On an unrelated note --and this is just a general observation, not a response to anything Matahari has posted -- has anyone noticed how many Protestants tend to demean Mary in their effor to oppose the Church? Saying things like how Mary was just a vessel to give birth to Christ, or that even Jesus didn't show her respect. As if Christ, who was the perfect and sinless man, would ever violate the Commandment to honor one's parents.

Please note that we did have one protestant suggesting that the Immaculate Conception is a very Lutheran sort of doctrine.

When Jesus on the cross entrusted his mother to the beloved Disciple He was entrusting her to the Church. "Behold, your mother" is his command not just to St. John but to the faithful of every age. Therefore, the Fourth Commandment surely applies to us to give proper honor and respect to the Theotokos.
