I guess I cannot say what is the "general thing" in the US, or anywhere else, because my experience is limited. I may have been making an error by assuming my experience is general. Local Canon Law in Philadelphia required that the Epistle and Gospel be read, and a homily be preached, in the language of the people of the parish at every Sunday Mass.
