Last week, the West Coast Call to Action had its conference in San Jose. This blogs links to a video of the Closing Liturgy.
Here’s a direct link to the video.
Playing “spot the liturgical abuse” is not the point. Nor is snarking at the average age of the participants. (Just heading off the predictable commentary at the pass here. Let’s go deeper.)
What I am just not grasping, despite my pretty strong powers of empathy, is the gestalt at work here.
Why does everyone think the giant liturgical puppets are so awesome?
This has got to be one of the oddest things I’ve ever seen.

Speechless
Oh please. My eyes!
Not only puppetry, but liturgical dancers (by a woman old enough to know better.)
Fatima prayer, again?

As noted by someone else on an older thread...
"FReeper Miss Marple has a Puppet Index that seems to reflect the idiocy of certain parades fairly accurately. The more puppets, the more idiocy. I don't know if it's a linear or geometric function - gonna have to get some FReeper statisticians in on that one..."
Here are some "fer instance" examples:

I didn’t need to see that. What next, a Jesus juggling act?
What a horror!
I believe being in attendance would constitute Liturgcal Abuse.
It’s certain that if these folks were satirizing the Muslim faith that “very large heads” would roll.
I just watched the video ~ you’re going to need to put the Fatima prayer on a 24 hour continuos loop.
We may have to go one level higher - Divine Mercy chaplet.
These people are all greying Baby Boomer hippies. Don’t they fear what they’re all going to face in a few years or so?
Can we snark at the weight/shapelessness of the "principal" dances? 'Course, it's probably nothing several years of 6 or 8 hours a day at the barre couldn't cure . . . maybe . . . ;-)
This must be reported to the bishop. If he neglects to say
anything and refuses to condemn this action he will be no
different than Cardinal Law’s neglect concerning the
abuse of children. This is a serious abuse of the sacred
liturgy and must be condemned. To remain silent is tantamount to approval.
Were these people born idiots, or did they become that stupid?
Oh my good gracious that video is hysterical. Why is heresy often so danged tacky? Does alliance with the evil one take away appreciation for grace and propriety? Does Satan truly delight in making us make look ridiculous? I guess the answer is yes.
Anyone know who the so called priest is in this liturgical masturbation? I sure would not want to be in his shoes should Jesus decide to drop down and say howdy.
This is Call to Action West Coast. That encompasses several dioceses. Doubtful you will find any one of those bishops addressing this situation. Take a look at the conference topics. For example:
Rob Grant - Why the Church has a Problem with Progressives, and How to Nurture that Problem into a Solution
Why on earth would an otherwise intelligent institution be so wary of concepts as seemingly benign as women priests? Inclusive language? Collaborative leadership? Knowing the paradigms, assumptions and fears from which a person or a group operates is the first step to conversation and true engagement. Thirty-year veteran pastoral minister/teacher/writer Rob Grant moderates this foray into appreciating, and opening, the mind of the Institution.
Their ranks are shrinking, the members are aging and at some distant point, they will be nothing more than a blip on the radar screen of Catholic history.
The sad news is that the celebrant is the Bishop Emeritus of Victoria in British Columbia, Canada, Remi de Roo. He is also an Enneagram Master which he promotes on his own web page. You can google him and find it all, as well as his promotion of attending the above puppet mass. He is 84 and bankrupted the Diocese of Victoria with race-horses and land deals.
He’s a retired bishop from Victoria, British Columbia:

He’s going to need a lot of prayers.
I can only say that the video is quite uplifting
insofar as it speaks volumes
about
how little we have to worry about CTA
given the elderly crowd in attendance,
the pathos of “me” in evidence,
and the general lack of appeal of the show that these people tried to put on.
It is also sad to see such emptiness in people who presumptively yearn for God but seek Him by deliberate defiance of his Church.
At my nephew’s first communion last week, the priest gave his homily with a puppet on his shoulder. Yeech.
These people must weep in frustration when they view the young people embracing tradition.
You would think that a person so close to meeting his maker would straighten up and fly right.
So I don't expect to see Cardinal Mahony issuing any anathemas anytime soon.
His whole needs to be issued an enema.
His whole chancery needs to be issued an enema.
“These people must weep in frustration when they view the young people embracing tradition.”
I wish you could the adolescents at Adoration in my church. Heads are covered, bows are to the ground, and the intensity of prayer is beautiful to behold. No giggling, no talking, no fidgeting, nothing but adoration for the Holy One.
~And it’s all due to our priests. They are holy. We now have 3 seminarians and 2 postulants. One a year..
It just seems unfair not to post a link to a travesty by SJA in MN when heresy and liturgical masturbation is discussed. So here for the rapid raising of rosaries is a link to SJA’s Earth Day Mass.
LOL Whoever thought this up probably thought they were being all artsy and cutting edge.
NO!!!! Was this at a parish in Vermont? Because I stumbled upon the following web site and thought of how blessed you are to be free of this liberal nonsense.
Link (okay ... it's a few years out of date but looks fairly solid).
We had First Communion last Sunday, too. The Pre-K and K children followed the 3 First Communicants (this was a banner year; normally we have 1 or 0) in procession, carrying flowers, and one was lifted up by the pastor to crown the Blessed Mother. Freepmail me if you want to see the pictures. Father delivered a beautiful homily on how our Lord comes to us in the Eucharist and the need for us to be pure and clean when we receive him. One of the relatives must have been paying attention and did not go up for communion.
What is it with leftists and dog-ugly puppets?
The St. Joan of Arc Eco-Spirituality Committee plans programs to help us connect our spirituality and sense of justice with the earth, its systems and all its creatures.
The sad thing is, they truly believe this is how they are to worship God. Or how about this?
Mothers Day Convocation for a More Peaceful World: Saturday, May 10 at 10 am, join Rep. Keith Ellison, Rev. Victoria Safford (VICTORIA SAFFORD is minister of White Bear Unitarian Universalist Church) and our own Sami Rasouli at White Bear Unitarian Universalist Church in Mahtomedi. We will call for an end to violence and a commitment to funding peace building. A free will offering will be collected. FFI Mary Jane at 651.426.8616.
Sure ... just the way I would want to celebrate Mother's Day (/not).
How could anyone sit through that and not simply burst out in uncontrollable laughter?
When I first read about SJA I was outraged and more than a bit puzzled. Why I asked myself does not the Bishop close down this parish? Then the light dawned. If SJA closed down the heretics therein would be disbursed to spread their toxins to other parishes. God in His wisdom has allowed them all to be in one place where they feed off one another and cabal their anti Christian faith within a select circle.
If a virus can not be wiped out, medical protocol says it must at least be contained. We already know a vaccination exists but if fools refuse to take it we can at least protect ourselves from contagion.
Thanks for the nightmares!!!
Correct you are, weegee!
Marple’s Rule: The importance of a demonstration is inversely proportional to the number of giant puppets present.
Same goes for liturgy.
If I saw giant puppets at a mass, I would stand up and yell “Abomination! Idolatry!” and then leave.
They puppets and the people are unisex.
‘Nuf said.
Come on - you could be more creative than that!!!!
They deserve much better from you...if you get my drift.
Nothing says
“its all about meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee”
like a “liturgy”
replete with plentiful actions
that no one is expecting
performed by numerous performers
who would be unable to earn a living
by such performances.
“How could anyone sit through that and not simply burst out in uncontrollable laughter?”
Well, some of us aprreciate the ancient holy liturgy of St.Pufnstuf. Sometimes I close my eyes and I’m transported back to the liturgy of my youth, where giant stoned looking puppets cavorted around the altar all mass long. Smells and bells!!!
Freegards
Yours is much more creative. My Rule is more mathematical.
It’s not very snappy, but it IS true!
He asked why I had my mouth open like a dead fish.
Stunning, just stunning.
Bishop Matano has been a gift from God but unfortunately some priests in the diocese seem to be doing their own thing.
OMG, I just made my wife and eldest son watch the entire “Mass”!
What a sad sad group of old folks seeking something - anything - to fill the empty space that only God can fill.
And when you stand for nothing, anything will do.
It really is heartwarming to see how unpopular this tripe really is.
I’m a greying baby boomer hippie. Can I divorce “my generation?” What an embarrassment - not to mention the Almighty Zot factor, which they are just asking for!
How classless. Don’t they know that sock puppets would have been the way to go?
With all the dancing, most of them look to be the age I felt I was watching a Depends Adult diaper commercial.
If anyone knows who the Priest was celebrating the Mass, I’d like his name, so I can pray for him.
“Dear God, please smack some sense into your Priest, Fr. doofus”
I am totally appalled. I don’t know what this gathering of narcissistic fruitcakes is, but there’s nothing Catholic about it. Fr. “Jim” and his accomplices are going to have a lot of ‘splaining to do when Benedict finally gets a grip on what’s happening in the American Church.
