McCain Campaign Declines to Meet with Billy Graham
Newsmax ^ | 6/8/08 | Doug Wead

In another disturbing sign that Sen. John McCain has little interest in reaching out to his conservative base, including evangelical Christian voters, his campaign has declined an offer to meet with the Rev. Billy Graham.

For almost six decades, Graham has been America’s most influential preacher and evangelist, a man sought out by every president since Harry Truman.

Today, the 89-year-old Graham is in declining health and stays near his home in Montreat, N.C. His last public appearance, in May 2007, marked the dedication of his library. Three former American presidents -- Jimmy Carter, George H. W. Bush and Bill Clinton -- were on hand to honor Graham.

McCain wants to close down GITMO and bring the terrorists into the US for trial. How does this benefit national security?

Geez, if McCain doesn't want to talk to Billy Graham, I'd love to take his place.

Rev. Graham is a genuine, honest, humble man. Not too many of those around that are in the public eye.

McCain is a fool for not wanting to speak to him....unless his ego just couldn't handle it.

I agree with your assessment. I don’t see anywhere in the article that Dr. Graham has requested such a meeting. Given the climate today, and in retaliation for Wright’s treatment, the Demos and mainstream media will dig up anything at all questionable in Dr. Graham’s pronouncements of the past sixty years, not to mention anything said by his kids. Why subject a 90-year-old housebound preacher to that kind of treatment? This seems to be an attempt by the middlemen to increase their own street cred with politicians and fellow believers. Let Dr. Graham live out his last years in peace and tranquility, respected by almost all people of any faith.

WHAT AN IDIOT ! ! ! He’s really trying to lose this election isn’t he?

Well, crap like this makes it easier for me to go to bed and go to sleep on Election Night while the networks are interviewing President-Elect Obama.

Maybe it was just a matter of timing and calendar conflicts. He could arrange a phone call, though.

As much as I dislike Mcqueeg, it is right and proper to establish more separation of church and state into our national political dialog.

For the GOP and conservatives (which McQueeg is neither) it is and will remain essential to discontinue with this “kissing of the ring” by political leaders. We’ve tried it, it doesn;t work and drives less “fervent” voters away from the conservative message (which is NOT about religion).

As for McQueeg, he’d be refusing to meet Graham not from any position of principle or concern about the GOP or conservatism, but merely to exercise his bent and twisted regressive psychology.

>>>Maybe some see this as a good thing. I’d be interested to hear from FReepers who view this as a step forward.

Yes, but McQueeg does it for the wrong reasons, spite versus principle.

My post above explains it, as does my tagline below.

What is an hour that could be viewed as him reaching out to the conservatives? If this proves true it will hurt him and shore up the idea he doesn’t want to conservative votes. The facade that the ruling class has such a hectic schedule is bunk.

“Worst. Candidate. Ever.”

And the SOB keeps sending me letters asking for money. I’m seriously considering voting for Bob Barr, just as a protest statement. I want the Republican Party back, damnit!
