I'm new to FR, and I've encountered some posts that I'm having a hard time understanding. I figured I'd go right to the source and try to get some clarification. The problem I'm having relates to those posters who are concerned that Obama is the anti-christ, which, if I'm understanding correctly, is an evil leader who ushers in the end of the world. I also understand that when the world is getting ready to end, evangelical Christians believe that the faithful among them will be sucked up into heaven by god to spend eternity by his side.
My question is this: everyone posting about Obama being the anti-christ seems very concerned about the idea, yet one would assume that if they literally believe that such a thing is possible, then they're fairly confident they'll be raptured up as soon as all the trouble starts. After all, no one picks a religion that has them losing in the end (except possibly Norse polytheism.) Why are you / they so worried about it? If you're going to be raptured, what's the issue? I'm not a fundamentalist Christian, so this seems sort of counter-intuitive to me. One would think anyone who believes in the rapture would be VERY excited for it, as they get to spend the rest of eternity in heaven.
Lastly, due to the...hostility...sometimes encountered here, let me clarify. I'm NOT trolling, I'm just curious. If I've somehow offended you, just ignore the post instead of getting butthurt in the comments. Finally, for the inevitable questions of my patriotism, I'm an Army paratrooper with two combat tours to Afghanistan, so before you mouth off about how I'm a bad American, go fight in Afghanistan for a few years. That said, don't ignore the topic, explain what I'm missing: if you're going to be raptured, why be concerned about the antichrist?
Your premise that anyone is “fairly confident” in the “rapture,” is where you’re tripping up here.

Not every Christian believes in a pre-trib rapture. Plus as a Christian I fret for the friends and loved ones who have not made a decision for Christ who have to deal with the Anti-christ as well.

Welcome to FR. You’d need to read scripture to know the signs and order of events. Without that understanding, I can see why you might erroneously come to the conclusion you’ve come to.
Well now, worrying about facing the anti-christ depends on if you’re a pretribber, midtribber or post-tribber.
I’ve not seen that posted here. Why don’t you provide a link or ask that poster directly?
What you have posted is called a “Vanity” post. They are frowned upon at Free Republic. My recommendation to you is to read the board for two weeks to get the feel of it before posting.

Obama is going to weaken our defenses, he is going to cripple our economy with his tax and spending plans, and I fear the future under him.
Look at the stock market dropping....businesses know what he is going to do to them....

I do not believe Obama is the antichrist, but I do believe God has a plan for the world, I do believe there will be a rapture of the Church, but of course no man knows the hour or the day. I said from the start that if Obama won, that i felt he may be part of end time prophecy—but not the anticgrist, however there will be a deciever that comes first to set the way for the antichrist, must admit Obama is a good liar and deceiver. Will be interesting to see if Israel will be protected by Obama. God made a covenant with Israel to always protect her. We have been a great friend to Israel and our Nation has been blessed by God, we will have to see what happens. With that said, the Bible is super prophetic and things have come to pass that fulfils bible prophecy...but there is more to come, is Obama part of it? Re,ains to be seen, and what he does in office will be an indicator. Watch the middle east and what Obama does.
I'm not an Evangelical Christian or a very religious person, but I guess I would ask the question: "If a Muslim terrorist is going to be rewarded with 72 Virgins for blowing himself up and taking a multitude of innocent people with him, what's the issue?
