If one believes Bible prophecy should be taken literally, the area now called Iraq is mentioned prominently as having a role to play in history yet to unfold.

But Babylon is not “literally” mentioned. Neither does the Bible ever use the term “Babylon” to refer to whatever government happened to be in charge of that plot of land in the Middle East, esp, modern Iraq. So you appear to be wrong on at least two counts.

Trying to shoehorn modern events into the Bible is a futile exercise.

Try reading Jeremiah he has a whole lot to say about Babylon and events taking place.
