St. Ignatius writes of the primacy or the bishop of Rome in 2c. and the Orthodox Church agreed to the primacy of Rome since then, even though attempts to similarly elevate Constantinople were made. The Orthodox Church was one and the same with the Catholic Church till the Great Schism of 1054, which had nothing to do with the papacy anyway.
I did not seriously practice the faith till my adult conversion to Catholicism, but I was baptized Russian Orthodox in a small church near Moscow, as an infant, one of the happiest days of my life. I recently found that church in Google Earth.
St. Ignatius, circa 1500, has about as much authority to comment on what people thought in the 2nd century, as i do for the year 800AD.
And he wouldnt be biased at all,,as a Spanish ROMAN CATHOLIC,,
He’s also famous for slandering the Reformation. Guess he made good money on those indulgences and liked that inquisition thing too, huh>?
