Homosexual relations and the Bible
http://peacebyjesus.witnesstoday.org ^ | 6-12-09 | daniel hamilton

The interpretive conflict regarding homosexuality and the Bible is a relatively recent phenomenon, between two fundamentally different positions and interpretive foundations. Historical/traditional scholarship evidences that the Bible contains laws which prohibit homosex (same gender sexual relations; also referred to as homoeroticism or homogenital relations), and which are as universal and immutable as laws against illicit heterosexual partners are shown to be (or even more so), as belonging in the same class. In addition, the necessary positive sanction of marriage, which is provided explicitly for opposite gender sexual unions, is nowhere established for homosexual unions.

Pro-homosex polemicists have responded to this problem by asserting all the injunctions against homosex are culture or contextually bound or for other reasons cannot not universally apply today, and or that the Bible is not wholly inspired of God and provides no transcendent universal sexual ethic. In addition, advocates of homosexual relations often propose or assert that homoeroticism and even same-sex marriage can be seen in many close relationships between persons in the Bible.

Even the liberals acknowledge that we have an”orientation” toward violence, that we even delight in it.

>>>A nation that legalizes abomination is under condemnation and headed for damnation. (! am not asserting America is for sure Babylon, but the type fits)

Well if falling short in Biblical obedience is Babylon, we’re cooked. To sample a few amongst other injunctions we ignore, we don’t require men have beards and long hair, we allow lobster and shrimp to be sold and consumed, we eat pork Bar-B-Q, Wal Mart is full of cotton blend shirts, and we abolished slavery. If Leviticus doesn’t get you one way, it gets you another.

“the swine, though it divides the hoof, having cloven hooves, yet does not chew the cud, is unclean to you.” (Leviticus 11:7)

“Whatever in the water does not have fins or scales; that shall be an abomination to you.” (Leviticus 11:12)

“Do not plant your field with two kinds of seed. Do not wear material woven of two kinds of material.” (Leviticus 19:19)

“Do not cut the hair at the sides of your head or clip off the edges of your beard.” (Leviticus 19:27)

“If a man lies with a woman during her sickness and uncovers her nakedness, he has discovered her flow, and she has uncovered the flow of her blood. Both of them shall be cut off from her people.” (Leviticus 20:18)

“Your male and female slaves are to come from the nations around you; from them you may buy slaves. You may also buy some of the temporary residents living among you and members of their clans born in your country, and they will become your property.” (Leviticus 25:44-45)

Alas Babylon. No way I’m giving up country ham.

>They have intentionally chosen the lowest common denominator, and then chained themselves to it.<

Insightful, and the Bible shows that pride in ones abnormal sexuality is nothing new.

(Rom 1:32) “Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.”

This refers to more than just homosex, but the prevalence such is concomitant with declension into other sins, including societal conditions of fulness of bread, and abundance of idleness, and selfishness. (Ezek 16:49)

But we must all find sin grievous, not celebrate it.

Thanks for not reading the page. It is ignorance or rejection of proper exegesis that such arguments depend upon. When you find anywhere under the New Covenant that laws against sexual partners are included in the class of laws which the Holy Spirit lists as ceremonial (Col. 2:14-17; Heb. 9:10; 10:1-10; cf. Rm. 14; Gal. 4:10), than you can commit adultery, etc. Instead, what is manifest is that laws regarding such are actually intensified, and are actually reiterated as a class more than any other concern man’s behavior. The man in the incestuous relationship was not handed over to Satan for eating bacon. Go read the Leviticus section.

I can assure you, it wasn't my intention to do so.

Can you tell me what I did?

I was not using a euphemism, however. I meant no disrespect to anyone here.

sorry.

To avoid being distracted by legalism or our own understanding independent of God, which may have been formed from worldly attempts to perform good, instead of focusing on homosexuality, our focus might be better directed simply at the topic of sexual immorality, which has the same consequence and grouped with homosexuality in its discussions throughout Scripture.

It may be in the same class, but I would give it special attention since it is actually a punishment by God for refusing to honor and Obey God and it binds all kinds of other wickedness on the soul that has this punishment inflicted on them. Furthermore, as the scriptures you have listed prove, God considers it not just a sin, but an abomination.

That kind of makes this sin stand apart from most others as someting more severe.

Form a biblical point of view all sex outside of marriage is an equal perversion. Dividing it into fornication, masturbation, pederasty, adultery, etc., is a modern point of view.

Seeing homosex as a particularly perverse manifestation of idolatry is not new. In Romans 1 the Holy Spirit is the one who focuses on that, showing that as idolatry replaces the true and living God with a false god, so souls left the God-designed and ordained sexual mate for one that was unnatural.

Heterosexual relations are wrong when outside a valid marriage, whereas homoeroticism, like idolatry, is unconditionally wrong.

While all sin is sin, and one sin will damn you, the ultimate one being rejecting Christ, when a person or calls of persons insists a practice is not a sin, then that error it must be dealt with.

See post 33. It is focuses upon because others have made an issue. When witnessing to a Muslim, who deal with him as a lost sinner, but if he makes his religion a reason for not repenting and believing on the Lord Jesus, and goes to others propagating his faith, then it must be dealt with.

False beliefs often must be shown to be such, and repented from.

(Jude 1:3) “Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints.”

(Acts 14:15) “And saying, Sirs, why do ye these things? We also are men of like passions with you, and preach unto you that ye should turn from these vanities unto the living God, which made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and all things that are therein:”

(Acts 17:16-17) “Now while Paul waited for them at Athens, his spirit was stirred in him, when he saw the city wholly given to idolatry. {17} Therefore disputed he in the synagogue with the Jews, and with the devout persons, and in the market daily with them that met with him.”

The reason for my approach to first focus on sexual immorality vice homosexuality, is that many who have succombed to the tempation of homosexuality have been encouraged to scar their thinking to the point that they are arrogant and immediately react with a closed, veiled mind, when the Scriptural support is provided.

I agree that there is a more devious work at hand, considering the efforts over years to finance and rewrite the Bible in an attempt to counterfeit God’s system to achieve their desires.

Let me see if I understand what you wrote: sex outside marriage (boy-girl) is the same as homosexual sex (boy-boy, girl-girl)?

I'm not certain I follow the theory that homosexual relations are idolatry, whereas heterosexual relations outside marriage are apparently not.

I don’t consider heterosexual relations to be comparable to homoeroticism. The first is an action, the second is a state. I think there is a big difference between the two—it’s like comparing killing somebody with being intensely angry with somebody.

I had a thought about your post yesterday prior to reading this one. It must’ve been spiritually induced.

gbible.org and Robert McLaughlin, along with DeanBible.org of West Houston Bible Church and Charlie Clough’s cclough.org/com? Framework series provide some substantial doctrinal teaching.

I’ve been running through Dean’s Hebrews series of about 200 mp3 tapes. Hebrews #137-140 is an outstanding review of the Tabernacle and the types representing Christ and doctrinal distinctions of KOPHAR as cleansing vice the older interpretation of ‘covering’.
