Posting the speeches of past mormon leaders from mormon websites is “bashing” ????
Is that what you call being bit in the bum by your own words ???
See # 81
Plus when are you going to stick up for Christianity ???
We should instead be pooling our shared desire to practice freely our religions, and to fight to keep the religious freedoms the country was based on.

Who is “we” ???
The mormons tossed out “the religious freedoms the country was based on.”
The mormons have no “desire to practice freely our religions”
They claim they have the only religion...
That all others are abominations...
That includes Christianity...
I ask again...
Who is “we” ???
Yaelle,
When I post about Mormonism, I am posting as a woman who was the fifth or sixth generation Mormon on every side of my heritage. My people left Christianity 170 years ago to follow a “Prophet” into the wilderness. Those same people tamed the deserts and made them blossom. They were hardworking, raised good families, and for the most part were patriotic. But what they weren’t is Christian.
I was lead away from knowledge of the Biblical Christ. I was lied to about the nature of God. I was told that I could become a wife to a god if I performed certain rituals in secret and never divulged any of it, and if I could become perfect by my own works I could gain the knowledge it takes to be a wife to a god who creates worlds of his own making.
I found Christ only about 7 years ago. He set me free from the bondage of performance to attain godesshood. He gave me salvation in place of my sins.
I will never be quiet about it. I should be as free to post my experiences with Mormonism as the Mormons are free to post theirs. Shouldn’t I?
One wonders if there were someone encouraging and coaching.
Surely, the daily closed mormon threads are as noticeable as the "open" threads, and a casual observer would see the proselytizing going on.
Thanks freedom9, for being one of very few who comments on this.
I do not mean to be trite here, but FR does not argue religion. It does allow more than a little freedom and some of it's members debate religion.
IMO you have misunderstood and mischaracterised the debate and the people who debate on the Religion Forum. You are certainly free to continue to do that. You can also avoid open threads on the Religion Forum or avoid the Religion Forum entirely.
How is it that posts to open threads prohibits or impares that? Do you just want to ban debate in open threads? Are you mischaracterizing what happens in open threads to achieve that goal?
How is anyone prohibited or impaired from worshiping by what is posted on an open thread?
Yes, and so rich with interesting areas for conversation. One wonders, why come to an open thread and debate things when the opportunity to participate in a lively back slapping discussion in a closed thread exists?
Sorry, people. As I said yesterday, I did not understand this whole side of FR with Religion Forums and all, and I stand corrected. FR is the way JimRob wants it. If he and all the Religion Forum leaders want to debate religions and defend their own, I guess it’s the way of the land so to speak.
I guess in my mind I would have banned all religious “debate” on the site if it were my own, yes, because I would want to focus on what we all have in common, more or less. I believe that RAISES the discourse.
I can promise you people I was never coached or led by anyone — I responded with my own crazy little mind, after thinking about what used to bother me on this site that I never reported.
Nor is it my place to defend Christianity. I am not a Christian, but I love you guys!! You defend yourselves quite well without my help.
Forget I said anything — I was driving the wrong way on the freeway! :) Please, no harm meant. I will not hit abuse as I said I would for religious arguments; I must have stepped out of bounds myself. And I’m sorry.
Peace.
Thanks. :)
The Religion Forum may not be to everyone's taste. I like this... I was driving the wrong way on the freeway! :)!
So, you bash as "abusers" anybody negative toward Mormonism. How is it that you have the supposed "high ground" to bash others as "abusive" but you somehow skirt yourself out of the way of being an abuser yourself? Where do you draw the line? On what grounds? Please explain the apparent inconsistency?
So now "race" is to be put on the same continuum as true (race) vs. false (race)? And don't you, by disrespecting those who believe that not all religious truths -- especially those which directly contradict with one another -- can be simultaneously true -- engage in what you're accusing others of?
Why do others qualify under your umbrella of "disrespect" but you somehow escape it, as if you were a judge on high -- above it all? We all might have issues with faiths not our own.
OK, I don't see any Red Army or door-to-worship door gestapo curtailing the worship you describe. (You've exaggerated if you think there's anyone clamping down upon "allowing" others to worship as you described)
...to worship as THEY see fit.
It's the "worship-as-they-see fit" crowd that explains Jonestown and Heaven's Gate. Heaven's Gate's mass suicide was a religious act -- one where they saw it as the doorway to encountering aliens awaiting them. The Jonestownians escaped to Guyana precisely to "worship as they saw fit" -- and almost 1,000 were murdered & committed suicide [the murdered being young children killed by their parents].
Read farther down the thread where I totally backed off and apologized.
