O'Malley to preside at Kennedy funeral
Boston.com ^ | August 28, 2009 | Michael Paulson

Posted on 08/29/2009 4:48:47 AM PDT by NYer

Cardinal Sean P. O'Malley of Boston will preside at the funeral of Sen. Edward M. Kennedy tomorrow at the Basilica of Our Lady of Perpetual Help (the Mission Church). The Rev. J. Donald Monan, a Jesuit priest who was the longtime president of Boston College and is now the chancellor, will be the principal celebrant. And the Rev. Mark R. Hession, pastor of Our Lady of Victory Parish in Centerville, will deliver the homily.

PROGRAM DETAILS:

First Reading: Curran Raclin, stepson
Responsorial: Kara Kennedy Allen, daughter
Second Reading: Caroline Raclin, stepdaughter
Homily: Rev. Mark Hession
Intercessory Prayers: Kennedy's four grandchildren, and the youngest grandchild of each of his siblings, will read quotes from his speeches. (The family chose to honor the youngest children because Kennedy was the youngest in his family.)
Offertory: Grandchildren
Music by Yo-Yo Ma
Communion
Music by Placido Domingo accompanied by the Tanglewood Festival Chorus
"Ave Maria" by Susan Graham of the Metropolitan Opera
Tribute: Edward M. Kennedy Jr. and US Representative Patrick J. Kennedy (sons)
Eulogy: President Obama
Song: America the Beautiful

ANALYSIS:

The family and church officials have essentially chosen to split the roles three ways. Cardinal O'Malley, because of his role as the archbishop of Boston, will technically preside over the funeral, but Fathers Monan and Hession, who had closer relationships with Senator Kennedy, will be far more visible to casual viewers of the liturgy. Monan will celebrate the Mass, which will include presiding over the congregation and reciting the prayers of the Mass and being at the center of the altar during the Eucharist. Hession will deliver the homily, and his task will be to take the readings of the day and apply them to the moment.

Read post # 90.

By the way what does repenting mean anyway? He collapsed in January, plenty of time to make right what he did wrong. Part of confessing means dealing with a contrite heart and turning away from your sins, not being proud of them.

Sin and publicly piss all over your Church until you grab the Priest, he will take care of it, right? James 5:16 comes to mind but that would entail integrity, something our leaders lack.

Like I said before, Kennedy's soul is where He deemed it to be. We go by Scripture, tradition, logic, and actions.

Being corrupt to the bitter end, then grabbing the Priest hoping to get a “free ride” without repenting, this is Catholic teaching?

Makes for a very weak Church if you can knowingly sin perpetually and not bother actually repenting, just verbalizing on your deathbed while leaving Obama, the pro-abort Pres. to carry on your legacy (What has been reported). Again, what is repentence?

Tell me, how were Ted's actions in the last days?

By the way, your post Vatican II Church (As well as other Churches) is full of corruption. It makes exceptions (Annulments for bounty), covers up molestation, accepts sinners that flaunt their sins with no desire to repent, (Cough, pro-abortion politicians, cough, cough) and lazily says, “you can't partake in the Eucharist” even though they go Priest shopping (Pelosi and the like).

Where is the tradition of buying your annulment, supporting murder, corruption, theft and still being in the good graces of the Church by rattling off your sins in which you have no desire to repent from, spring forth at (While Ted was busy being the law maker)? If that is Catholic teaching consider me clueless since that Church is at war with Christ, the Church Fathers, and Biblical authority/tradition.

In order to maintain some semblance of authority, the Church should have kicked Kennedy out a long time ago (PUBLICLY) as any other Church under the authority of Christ should do . If he truly wanted to repent his actions would have made it so. I guess Kennedy got his cake and ate it too from his diocese. What a joke, accountability from “Spiritual” LEADERS, extinct I guess, especially if you have a Priest to serve as back-up.

If you get to meet Christ, you can ask Him.

God's ability to forgive sin exceeds yours infinitely.

I truely hope that he was contrite and asked for forgiveness for his stand on life issues.

I just wish for the souls of all those babies that he would have done so when it could have saved them from a terrible death.

Forgive my “moralistic fervor” because I happen to actually reason and call a spade a spade.

Also look at the way the Church was pre-Vatican II, sorry. Of course members actually had to tow the line back in the day. I won't dumb down myself in order accept the hypocrisy some diocese are flaunting now.

wow that is amazing.

Does any of it mention he is sorry for his stand on abortion>>>

I can hardly believe that they would read that private letter at his grave side.

“In the poisonous little mind of a Catholic-hating bigot.”

Kennedy did not get his marriage annulled?

My beef is not with the RCC in general, it's confronting the corruption that is there (And don't kid yourself that it's not present), which clergy and members should do.

Where did I condemn Kennedy?

Just pointing out the actions displayed, God gave us the ability to discern, did He not? Add the Bible and we got no excuses in this day and age.

The letter was quoted in parts, but no, no mention of his sins against life. In fact, he praised himself for all the "good work" he did while on the Hill. How do you like that?

sad, very sad.

Now he will have to have an answer to some questions.

I have some things that I must account for when I died but I am glad I dont have the blood of all those innocents on my hands.

Thank you for the the updates. I haven’t watched any of the Kennedy “send off.” I’ve been watching the Little League Championships. :)

Very sad indeed.

From what I have seen, TK’s actions, or lack therefore, he appears to be an unrepentent public sinner to the end. He would have to suffer the consequence for that.

For those clergy who pretended nothing went wrong and praised him, they lead others astray. For that, they will suffer the consequence too.

Don’t get too discouraged. Just remember what Lincoln taught us ... “you can fool some people .....”

It’s not what one says, it’s the way one say it.

Asking someone if she is naive or telling someone that she might learn something is not conducive to a conversation.

I teach my children that. Smarmy get one no where.

If you get the opportunity watch the EWTN rerun of The World Over.

Raymond Arroyo minced no words about Kennedy's on numerous issues.

He also gave the background into why so many politicians who are Catholic got their demented view on life issues.

Those priests have much to answer for.

Raymond also had on Bozell who talked about some of the media policies Obama is attempting to get pushed through congress.

Another segment was on Health Care.

The man owes you squat. I have been talking about a deathbed confession. If you DO NOT believe in them, you need to go back to Catechism.
You have no clue about God’s mind, whether or not Kennedy was truly contrite or what he said to his confessor.

The rest is just your opinion and nothing else.

Our Lord may have a different opinion. Take it up with him.

Right now, at the TK’s grave site, the officiating clergy (I don’t even know it is McCarrick, can’t see his face) is quoting part of TK’s letter to the Holy Father. Trust me, from what I heard, it’s all about TK himself, all the good he did etc etc. How arrogant indeed.

Who would make a copy of a personal letter to the Holy Father in praise of himself to be made public?

Kennedy pleading his case to no less than the Pope? Patting himself on his own back?

ARROGANCE AND A SENSE OF ENTITLEMENT BEYOND BELIEF!

I think McCarrick is retired. I've read his replacement's name once. Might be Weurn or something similar.

I suspect Kennedy made copies of his letter so that his voice wouldn't die with him. Speaking and legislating from his casket, for crying out loud!

Sorry, like I said, poor choice of words in “leaked”. Just informing that many confessions had been made aware publicly, by friends, family and the individual themselves.

Good suggestion. Thank you. I’m sure they will have a rerun on EWTN.

Barry Obama has lots of catholic traitors on his side. He also has a thing about spitting the RCC in the face. Unfortunately, he could get thru just about any kind of legislation because of all them “catholic politicians”.

If one day catholics once again become Real Catholics, Obama would fear this voting block. Oh well, wishful thinking I guess.
