I have a real problem with the idea there is a God that demands we believe in him in order for us to gain salvation. You are 100% right, you do have a problem.
The belief that you have a problem with is having faith that Christ died for YOUR sins. Would a God who is less than infinitely loving leave you to flounder in your sin without a way out?
There is zero proof this sort of God exists,
There is all sorts of historical/textual proof that Christ lived, died and rose. You choose to ignore that proof.
There are many many millions of good people in this world
No, everyone that doesn't believe is going through life flipping God off, just like you are doing. You have only yourself to blame. God is offering you an escape hatch. You are choosing to deny the Salvation He is offering.
If there is TRULY a "good girl" in India, then she doesn't need Christ. Don't worry about her, Christ died for sinners.

Oh great. Another squirrel fell out of the God of Hate tree. Any god that demands we believe in him while cloaking himself in ambiguity is an evil god. Your god is the god of evil. You can have him, just don’t call yourself a Christian. You’ll be lying.

Hate?
He died for sinners.
You are the one spewing venom cloaked as doubt.

The God of the Old Testament is arguably the most unpleasant character in all fiction:
well -- firstly, we'd argue that the OT is not fiction.
Secondly, that veers on Marcionism, actually it IS Marcionism or Manichaenism(namely OT God - bad, Jesus = Good guy)
And thirdly, with the same fault as point 2, it's not quite correct. the OT God IS compassion:
Biblegateway search for compassion
The OT God does love: Deut 7:8 "Because the Lord loved you", Deut 7:9 "he is the faithful God, keeping his covenant of love to a thousand generations of those who love him and keep his commandments.",Deut 10:18 "(he) loves the foreigner residing among you",

Thank you for sharing your insights, dear brother in Christ!
