You write: “If His intent was that the Catholic church be the sole carrier of the Great Commission, it didn’t work very well. Tolerating serial child rapists as priests hasn’t helped your cause much.”

I thought this was about doctrine and scriptural intepretation not about personal sin, repentance, and redemption. Of course there are sinful priests as there are among the flock. The early Church (as is the case today) is replete with the lives of saints and sinners.

As for giving each the “faculties” to discern the Truth. Of course. But this does not contradict in any way the unerring Spirit that guides the Church founded by the Christ and carried on by his line of apostles and disciples in discerning and preaching the Word of God so that errors will be discovered using our “faculties” as well. This is why we have a roster of innumerable and famous atheists; agnostics; Protestants of every stripe; clergy from other religious organizations including Hindu swamis, Buddhist priests, and rabbis, inventors; discoverers; playwrights; scientists; sculptors; painters; philosophers; musicians; and millions of lay people, who have “discerned” the truth and converted over to the Catholic faith.

Hopefully, this article will be helpful in teaching Catholics that truly progressive men interested in the real benefit of mankind must forever band together to reject Protestantism and the barren seed that it sows.

I want no part of this kind of BS.

I agree entirely, except that as I see it, the definition of "the Church" is the invisible, universal Church, the body of Christ, and is not exclusive to the Roman Catholic Church.

Right, because nobody's ever converted from any of those categories to any Protestant church. Good argument.

You write with respect to the above comment:
“I agree entirely, except that as I see it, the definition of “the Church” is the invisible, universal Church, the body of Christ, and is not exclusive to the Roman Catholic Church. “

This view creates an inherent absurdity because it allows the Holy Spirit to contradict the Word of God since this “universal” and “invisible” Church you have in mind holds onto contradictory interpretations of Scripture and the received (oral) traditions especially of the early Church.

Not at all. Scripture and the Holy Spirit are inerrant and guide the Church. The Church - made up of imperfect human beings - follows imperfectly. I see no contradiction in that.

How many Catholic denominations did the same person count?

“The Church - made up of imperfect human beings - follows imperfectly.”

But how would you know that this is “imperfectly” followed unless we know what is the “perfect” intepretation as handed down to us by Scripture and how it was understood by his apostles and disciples and the oral tradition handed town to the successor’s of St. Peter. The Great Commission to “Go Forth and Teach...” meant there were to be teachers.

I know it's imperfectly followed because the followers are imperfect. The oral tradition and the understanding of the early church were imperfect, again, because they were imperfect human beings. As for Peter, you are probably not surprised that I reject the Roman Catholic understanding of Matthew 16:18.

The Great Commission to “Go Forth and Teach...” meant there were to be teachers.

Of course there are and always have been teachers. Those teachers are imperfect men too.

Then there would be nothing malicious about exposing pedophiles in the Catholic church. Which is more evil, believing in total depravity, or doing it?

We all have the natural spirit, which is opposed to the Holy Spirit. God gives us the Spirit of Love after he transforms us. Not before. Before the transformation, we are lovers of self, not lovers of God.

It is hysterical that thread after thread like this is posted attacking the Catholic Church and nary a whimper. Post a rationale argument exposing protestantism and its hate speech and the demand goes out for the mods to take action.

This thread, posted by stfassissi in support of our Church, was bound to be used for target practice by the protestants. It’s amazing how vociferous some can be.

Simply not true ,dear brother.

No wonder why Calvin says there are babies in hell, because according to this logic we are not born transformed

I as hoping this thread would keep them from bashing the Blessed Mother for awhile and perhaps even save a few souls ;)

I used to call you brother and saint, but no longer. We are not one, as you continue to attack me and my faith. So be it.
I suggest you read Romans 5:18-21 and explain how one man, Adam, didn’t cause all men to be born sinful.
And, just for your information, Calvin was a proponent of children who die being brought to Jesus. Just so you know. I know, because I have read his words and argued them with my pastor... who did not believe this.

Go back and read post #76 and you will see there was no attack on you,I simply posted what John Calvin once said
