Genesis is Prophecy?

MORMON genesis is!!!

The Inspired Version

The first kind of support given for this thesis is from the Inspired Version of the Bible, also known as the Joseph Smith Translation (JST). In it, Joseph Smith desired to restore many of the "plain and precious things taken away from the book, which is the book of the Lamb of God." (1 Nephi 13:28)

Therefore, the clearest example given of biblical prophecy regarding Joseph Smith from the JST is Genesis 50:30-33

And again, a seer will I raise up out of the fruit of thy loins, and unto him will I give power to bring forth my word unto the seed of thy loins; and not to the bringing forth of my word only, saith the Lord, but to the convincing them of my word, which shall have already gone forth among them in the last days; Wherefore the fruit of thy loins shall write, and the fruit of the loins of Judah shall write; and that which shall be written by the fruit of thy loins, and also that which shall be written by the fruit of the loins of Judah, shall grow together unto the confounding of false doctrines, and laying down of contentions, and establishing peace among the fruit of thy loins, and bringing them to a knowledge of their fathers in the latter days; and also to the knowledge of my covenants, saith the Lord. And out of weakness shall he be made strong, in that day when my work shall go forth among all my people, which shall restore them, who are of the house of Israel, in the last days. And that seer will I bless, and they that seek to destroy him shall be confounded; for this promise I give unto you; for I will remember you from generation to generation; and his name shall be called Joseph, and it shall be after the name of his father; and he shall be like unto you; for the thing which the Lord shall bring forth by his hand shall bring my people unto salvation.

In this text, a future seer is promised who will be called Joseph, a name shared by his father (Joseph Smith was named after his father). Could this be a clear link between a prophecy in the Bible and Joseph Smith? Upon looking closer at the evidence, this could hardly be the case. The fact of the matter is that there is absolutely no indication that this text was originally included in the biblical book of Genesis. Not a single Hebrew document exists to support Smith's alteration of the Book of Genesis. It seems that beginning with verse 24, Joseph Smith inserted his own text. His content continues through the first part of verse 36, where he finishes through verse 38 with modified verses from the King James Version (vv. 24-26 in the KJV).

Therefore, the only way one could believe this passage was originally in the Bible and foretold the coming of Joseph Smith is if the person previously believed that Smith was a true prophet. The passage in Genesis 50 could not possibly verify Smith as a prophet because the validity of the text itself depends upon his prophetic role. To argue otherwise would be a logical fallacy. As a result, this text cannot be submitted as evidence for Joseph Smith fulfilling prophecy in the Bible.

Things were a little nutty around 1000 BC as well...

The point I was trying to emphasize was that there will be no rapture based on scripture. Also, what you left out from my quote was the last part,"Jesus promised to be with us until the End" paraphrasing what scripture teaches. Verbatim this scripture reads, “…lo, I am with you alway, [even] unto the end of the world. Amen.” Mathhew 28:20

God’s people will have to endure Jacob’s trouble when all hell breaks loose. Jesus has promised that “in the world we will have tribulation”, John 16:33, Revelation 2:10, but that He will be with us until the end, since He has overcome the world. I don’t find anywhere in God’s Word that believers will be spared from tribulation.

The churches have been deceived with the “rapture” theology, from a scriptural standpoint, since the Bible clearly says that when Jesus comes, “every eye will see Him” Revelation 1:7, “For the Son of man shall come in the glory of his Father with his angels; and then he shall reward every man according to his works” Matthew 16:27.

The “reward” spoken of here is given on the last day. Not when a saved person dies or is “raptured” up, “Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.” 2 Timothy 4:8

Don’t mistake a bubble for a fly in the soup. I don’t intend to teach anyone. Only the Holy Spirit can lead you to all truth…

“Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, [that] shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.” John 16:13 and "He who has ears, let him hear".

I sense some virulence in your tone. I am not trying to prove anything, to God be the Glory, only raise some important points to be considered.

God Bless you and thank you for your comment.

Worth a repost! Mormon doctrine has a special place for the US in prophecy including Christ will reign from MO...

We believe in the literal gathering of Israel and in the restoration of the Ten Tribes; that Zion (the New Jerusalem) will be built upon the American continent; that Christ will reign personally upon the earth; and, that the earth will be renewed and receive its paradisiacal glory.

I took an entire course in grad school (medieval studies), on the year 1000 and eschatology.

Just an FYI, the book you keep linking to isn’t accepted by scholars. There are much better books out there that support your pet theory.

it was a joke about the sake, they aren’t an eschatology business.

What happened to them? Why were they pulled? Did I miss something offensive in them?

I was pushing it just a little far; the RM does need to keep the Religious Forum a little cleaner than the rest of FR. And I do agree, although sometimes I wind up on the wrong side of that line. RM is just doing his job.

bible.ca is hardly where I’d go for accurate Christian theological information, although they do make appropriate fun of Hal Lindsey and Jack van Impe.

And they hold the Catholic Church, the Jehovah’s Witnesses, the Seventh Day Adventists, Calvinists, Mormons, Muslims, and the Rapture/Premillennials all in equal contempt.

Like I said. My recollection was there was nothing offensive about it and the pictures where amazing.

Sometimes the RM have a better sense of these things and that is why they are overseers.

It was pulled because the second one included several references to potty language.

The Preterists claim the Olivet Discourse, including Christ’s second coming, was fulfilled in 70 AD. Yeah, right. Wheresoever the second coming is there will the resurrection be also. No such thing as Christ’s second coming without a bodily resurrection. There was no bodily resurrection of the elect in 70 AD, therefore there was no second coming of Christ in 70 AD. Simple enough. Preterism is as false a doctrine that has ever come from the mind of man.

Looks like I am going to have do some more research on the Preterist views (heresies).

No, the image in the mirror looks pretty good to them. A true object of worship.

The goofball website aside (it's like they are fumbling around in a fog over there),

Genesis is Prophecy? Also, I don't see anything indicating America, except perhaps in the broadest most generic sense that could relate to anything, anything at all from toenail clippings on up.

If you have to ask... oy vey. :(

That's alright, many people don't see that the Congress is replete with commies because after all, demoncrats and their fellows don't explicitely *say* that about themselves.

Belshazzar and all of his experts couldn't understand the writing on the wall, but if he/they had paid any mind to history, they wouldn't have needed a refresher from Daniel. The fact that the palace needed a history lesson explains the problem right there.

Daniel 5:17-18 Then Daniel answered and said before the king, Let thy gifts be to thyself, and give thy rewards to another; yet I will read the writing unto the king, and make known to him the interpretation. O thou king, the most high God gave Nebuchadnezzar thy father a kingdom, and majesty, and glory, and honour...

America is what it is, and at this late stage most have decided - base on understanding as deep as Belshazzar's - that there's nothing to see.
