Likely a bit unfair to the department as a whole. I can't speak for the entire list, but it is safe to say MacIntyre won't be endorsing Marx anytime soon, and Freddoso certainly sides with the Magisterium, not McInerny. If you look at both the ND Phil and THEO Depts., the faithful Catholics ARE outnumbered, and they would be the first to say (as long as they are tenured and not afraid of losing their jobs) that my depiction of Notre Dame under seize is a fair one.
“If you look at both the ND Phil and THEO Depts., the faithful Catholics ARE outnumbered,...”
I don't have any direct knowledge of this, but one of our family's friends is a philosophy professor at another Catholic college. He's a very, very orthodox Catholic. He says the theology department at Notre Dame is still pretty much under the control of the Dark Side, but that in recent years, the philosophy department has improved quite a bit and seems to have turned the corner.
He was sufficiently comfortable with Notre Dame's philosophy department that he encouraged his oldest daughter to accept admission there for this fall as a philosophy major.
