As St. Francis put it, "Preach the Gospel always; when necessary, use words." How we behave, matters.

Francis was a little narrow in his approach...Not to mention unbiblical...But then when did that ever slow down a Catholic???

Ayatollah Khomeini could be said to be preaching the Gospel if you just look at him...The Gospel words must be spoken...And heard...

They are NOT the same Gospel. They are poles apart. And hence, the reason WE are poles apart.

Hm. It appears to me that the real reason you are poles apart, is that you are insisting that it be that way. I am unable to find anything of the Gospel in your comments -- unless you count the parts where the Pharisees are talking.

I simply cannot be anything but repulsed by your stridency, especially in comparison to the truly Christian behavior I have among people who happen also to be Catholic.

They sense a rather prevalent arrogance and dismissiveness among those who claim to represent Christianity -- perhaps especially among those who call themselves "Evangelical." MORMON.

Fixed...

I used ‘group x’ because you changed my post to state ‘group x’ instead of the specific group that I mentioned.

I am not speaking in generalities, I am speaking of a very specific group of which I am a former member, knowledgeable of their teachings/history/and doctrine and the group I am called to witness to for the most part (although i am not limited to that particular group).

I think our Religion Moderator is doing a suburb job. Damn the naysayers, full speed ahead!!

I agree, the RM's permit a vigorous debate in an area where many can find their ox being gored easily and do a good job herding us 'cats' along the straight and narrow. Thank you for establishing and supporting the RF Jim.

a freeper can post his advice on what others should do (his thoughts) and he cannot be addressed on following his own advice? Is that what you are saying?

Once you address him on following his own advice you make the thread "about" him instead of his advice. When I detect a post like that, I issue a warning.

There are other ways to volley the ball back to his side of the court without making it personal. For instance, construct an example or hypothesis and ask him how he would apply his advice to it.

We do NOT believe the same things and are NOT called to travel back and forth, around the cross, in order to make nice.

Thank you for that excellent and astute comment.

The Word of God Himself gave the Church the power to remit sins.

What is the church that it can remit sins??? Are you the church??? What is the church???

Is it possible that we’ve gotten so caught up in being “right” that we’ve lost sight of what it is to be “good”?

Possibly; but the FACT is that we’ve gotten so caught up in being “good” that we’ve lost the GONADS to state what is RIGHT!

Now, WHICH Gospel are you referring to? You're making my point.

So you looked to the wisdom of man rather than the wisdom of God presented in the bible?

The wisdom of God was never revealed to them...Only a select few who pass on that revealed wisdom...

We check their quotes and look at the scriptures he uses in context.. we would do no less with any writing.. the inability to support spiritual teachings with Gods word diminishes its authority and it diminishes the authority of the writers here

Paul addresses this very issue:

1Th 5:21 Prove all things; hold fast that which is good.

If those things are proven, then the writings of men retain that spiritual authority and they are useful to us.

I've left out a lot of denominations.

Consider them included.

I've left out those who say they have no denomination, that they're "just Christians".

Consider them included.

How does one DISCRIMINATE between INtemperate & temperate? How does one DISCRIMINATE between INdiscreet & discreet?

It's not really that difficult to tell the difference. For the most part, it just takes a bit of humility, and a smattering of good manners.

Any moderately sane person can generally tell when they've crossed the line.

All oxes are gored (more or less) equally on FR.

By the way, I don’t belong to any organized religion. I’m a Democrat, er, Republican, er, God-fearing independent grassroots conservative Tea Partier.
