That is convenient to say the least.

It is not convenient at all. It means I am entirely responsible for what I say and do, and I will answer to God for my conduct. I cannot blame any another man for my failures.

And Joseph Smith (according to lds, you keep forgetting to add that part)

“If we get our salvation, we shall have to pass by him [Joseph Smith]; if we enter our glory, it will be through the authority he has received. We cannot get around him [Joseph Smith]” - (as quoted in 1988 Melchizedek Priesthood Study Guide, p. 142)

That is all good and well, but doesn't answer the question.

What do you do when god tells your that the leaders of your church are wrong?

Do you continue to support that church? Remember these are not just some random ministers and such that are your churches leaders, but prophets, seers and apostles. They speak with and for god directly, and as such there should be no guess work or “interpretation as mere ministers have to contend with when teaching and guiding their flocks as the “apostates” do.
