When I first converted to Catholicism decades ago, I was taught the rosary by my RCIA sponsor, a lady who, in addition to being mother of a very large family, was serene, humorous, and lovely.
I learned it, and forgot it for quite a few years. Then, I saw all the folks on FR who made fun of it. After a while, I decided that whatever they hated about the Church, I loved, and picked up my rosary again. Heh!
It was scary. I didn’t want to turn into a bliss-ninny, or change in a radical way, you know, lose my edge. Thanks be to God, I stayed me! And the Rosary has been a wonderful mainstay of my daily meditation and prayer on the Gospel of Christ Jesus, my beloved Lord and Savior.
I recommend it. ;-D
Say a Scriptural Rosary — saying a piece of Scripture before each Hail Mary.
I’ve written one for the Year of the Priest with the help of another person. The first five scriptural reflections on each mystery were about the mystery. The second five had something to do with the priesthood.
My priest, who collects Scriptural Rosaries complimented us on it.
We said it in four successive evenings while all the priests were at the end of the Year of the Priest celebration and Mass in Rome.
