Former Planned Parenthood director to convert to Catholicism
Catholic San Francisco ^ | 1/19/11 | Valerie Schmalz

The woman who walked away from her job as a Planned Parenthood clinic director after helping with an ultrasound-guided abortion is on the verge of entering the Catholic Church.

Abby Johnson, 30, who will speak at the 11 a.m. Walk for Life West Coast rally in San Francisco Jan. 22, is preparing with her husband Doug to enter the Catholic Church in her native Texas within the next few months. The couple has a 4-year-old daughter.

“When we went to the Catholic Church for the first time we knew that was where we were supposed to be and we have been there ever since,” said Johnson, who said she particularly loves the church’s reverence for Mary as the mother of God. “The more we started learning about the beliefs of the church and the Eucharist and everything, it seemed like this was what had been missing our whole lives.”

After eight years as a Planned Parenthood volunteer and employee, Johnson walked away from her job as director of a Planned Parenthood clinic in Bryan/College Station, Texas, Oct. 6, 2009 during a prayer vigil by 40 Days for Life. Johnson, who had two abortions at 20 and at 23, first began working as a clinic escort while a student at Texas A&M University. Assisting with an ultrasound during an abortion in September 2009 turned her into a pro-life advocate.

Johnson’s embrace of Catholicism was a natural development after she became pro-life but was precipitated by her pro-choice Episcopalian community’s vocal rejection of her change of heart, she said.

Disgusting.

With the Episcopalian Church one of the largest donors to the Religious Coalition for Reproductive Choice...

This is a church that is no longer a church.

Good for her. She has found God and found redemption.

Redemption is never too late. We can’t judge until the last breath. People we may condemn always can meet the Holy Spirit and be transformed. Condemnation comes too easily from our lips. God will have the last say. His ways are not our ways.

I wonder what the holdup is. Tomorrow might be too late. Our pastor told us a story a few months ago about a father that attended church with his newly converted son to "see what changed his son's life so dramatically". After service the father met with the pastor and said, "My son is saved and now I am too!" He got in his car to return home and died two hours later in a highway crash.

Agree.

We are called to the witness stand, not the judge’s bench.

I find this woman spiritually strong already. Imagine believing one thing that your religion, your church, your pastor has told you and then finding out it was a lie. She very easily could have given up on an organized religion period. However, she sought truth and found the Catholic Church.

No hold up -- this is the normal procedure for people entering the Catholic Church. They go through a series of RCIA classes. Here are some explanations of what that is and descriptions of what is covered.

She and her husband will enter the Catholic Church at the Easter Vigil. It is a very beautiful ceremony moving from darkness to light.

Easter Sunday Eve, better known as Holy Saturday Night, is the traditional time in which adults who are through the RCIA program come in the Catholic Church via either being baptized or if baptized prior in another Christian Church, being recieved.

True that--it's a 'heart condition'!

BTW, thanks for explaining the Catholic procedures; I had a hunch that had something to do with it.
