>> Ok fine. I generally don’t care to argue semantics, but thanks for the clarification. Our priest actually refers to it as the “ancient usage.” It’s the Mass of his childhood, so I guess that makes him ancient. =] <<

Well, to be perfectly honest, anyone born after 1962 didn't grow up with the Tridentine Mass (that includes me), so it's no exaggeration to say it's ancient to most Catholics today. Assuming someone was 10 years old when they replaced the Tridentine Mass with the Mass of Pope Paul VI (old enough where they would have pretty solid memories of it), that would make them 59 years old today. It's hard to "miss" something if you've never experienced it.

>> This is one of the many reasons the RCC is in trouble. << <<

Oh, come on. That sounds like one of those liberal media headlines "RCC in trouble -- hundreds leaving over refusal to ordain women!!". They're always be disgruntled people unhappy with the current direction of the church. You can't please everyone. Some will balk the church has become too conservative and some will balk the church has become too liberal. The Catholic Church now has over 1 billion members, the largest organized religion. It's not "in trouble" compared to the zillions of protestant churches constantly failing apart at the seems and erupting in civil wars.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not a big fan of the Mass of Pope Paul VI and find it to be boring and spiritually unfulfilled and lacking in reverence. The solution is I drive about 35 mins. every Sunday to attend a Byzantine-rite Catholic church. Alternatives are always readily available. There are also many types of masses besides the current Roman rite and the Tridentine mass.

I don’t know where you live, but that isn’t the case here. Here we have the ONE TLM, a couple of reverently celebrated NO’s and then what my friend refers to as the novus bozos. Not much of an alternative for those us in flyover country.

We do drive 3 hours round trip once a month to an FSSP parish Omaha. But wow, does that add up.

Hopefully, with the updating of the NO liturgy English come at the end of the year or on the 1st Sunday of Advent, hopefully a renewed since of reverence will start to come into play.
