“”Matthew 18:15-18 we see Christ instructing His disciples on how to correct a fellow believer. It is extremely telling in this instance that Our Lord identifies the Church rather than Scripture as the final authority to be appealed to.””
Actual text:
If your brother or sister sins, go and point out their fault, just between the two of you. If they listen to you, you have won them over. 16 But if they will not listen, take one or two others along, so that every matter may be established by the testimony of two or three witnesses.17 If they still refuse to listen, tell it to the church; and if they refuse to listen even to the church, treat them as you would a pagan or a tax collector.
Since Jesus chose to be with the sinners and tax collectors rather than his followers, that might be an interesting way to meet Jesus.
I recently heard a comedian talk about “How to find Jesus.” He said, “Everyone knows that Jesus is in prison because everyone is finding him there!” There is a lot of truth in that statement.
Remember: Matthew 21:31
Which of the two did what his father wanted? The first, they answered. Jesus said to them, Truly I tell you, the tax collectors and the prostitutes are entering the kingdom of God ahead of you.
35 This is how my heavenly Father will treat each of you unless you forgive your brother or sister from your heart.
From John 10, Jesus did not come to judge, but to save. And, as you judge, you too will be judged. Be careful!
You should’ve quoted the funniest parts, those about Selena and Michael Jackson (I guess the visitor was too young, so “the Lord” didn’t show her Eddy Cochran and James Dean, or even Keith Moon. “The Lord” is so hip when it comes to American pop culture. That’s just good to know.)
One needs to be terminally stupid to embrace this mindless definition.
Makes them no better than the sandmaggots.
But I shan't worry about it until those crazy Christian sects start killing infidels.
God speaks English?
Don’t put words in my mouth.
My argument is that Protestants are often using this argument of saying that we can only look at things that are in the Bible based on “sola scriptura”, but since that’s NOT in the Bible, it doesn’t make any sense.
If it was that important to God to have us not be confused, then why didn’t the Holy Spirit include it?
In other words, to me it comes across as another man-made doctrine...just the sort of thing Martin Luther was against. So I don’t understand the premise in the first place.
Take a look.
absolutely they are the Word of GOd.
here’s a straight forward question for you:
Did Jesus give His authority to teach to the Church in Matthew 28 and do we see the Church interpreting Scripture in Acts 8?
“He did not lead other men to believe for the first 15 centuries of Christianity.”
You’re assuming there was consistency for those 15 centuries, which we know there was not. Considering the “church” or Catholics controlled the Bible during much of that time its surprising that the consistency wasnt there.
If you're using that as your yardstick for measuring credibility, you'll have to throw out the papacy. The word "Pope" isn't in the Bible, either.
Anyone who begins a presumably intelligent response with "So..." deserves to be permanently ignored.
Delusional juvenile narcissism.
This article is so self-contradictory, where do I start?
biblically based, although no one believed it for 16 centuries?
sola scriptura was a dagger aimed straight at the Church and the fruit of it has been confusion, denominationalism and the rise of the cults. other than that, it’s fine.
“By the word of the LORD were the heavens made; and all the host of them by the breath of His mouth.” (Psalm 33:6)
“Wherewithall shall a young man cleanse his way? by taking heed thereto according to Thy word. With my whole heart have I sought Thee: O let me not wander from thy commandments. Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against Thee.” (Psalm 119:9-11)
“Thy word is a lamp unto my feet. and a light unto my path.” (Psalm 119:105)
“The entrance of Thy words giveth light; it giveth understanding unto the simple.” (Psalm 119: 130)
“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” John 1:1)
“And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father) full of grace and truth.(John 1:14)
“Search the scriptures, for in them ye think ye have eternal life, and they are they which testify of Me.” (John 5:39)
“It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.” (John 6:63)
“Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.” (2 Timothy 2:15)
“All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness. That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.” (2 Timothy 3:16-17)
“For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.” (Hebrews 4:12)
“Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth forever.” (1 Peter 1:23)
But it’s not in the Bible, is it? In fact, in three places the Bible tells us that it is incomplete because of so many things to write down.
Eph 2:8-9
8 For it is by grace you have been saved, through faithand this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God 9 not by works, so that no one can boast.
Catholicism depends on you feeling guilty beyond redemption, looks like it worked in your case.
And Greek, and Aramaic, and Hebrew and Arabic and ...
Acts:2
“red herring” huh? I think not. If you cannot answer a question so simple and straight-forward ... well.
So, are the Holy Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments the Word of God or not? Yes or no.
"We believe in the Bible alone and the Bible in its entirety as the sole rule of faith for the Christian!"
I'm guessing the rest of it's no more worth reading.
