More than 400 people witnessed the first same-sex civil union in Delaware on New Year's Day, a ceremony one guest called "absolutely beautiful."

Lawyers Lisa Goodman and Drewry Fennell were joined in the union by the Rev. Patricia Downing, rector of Trinity Episcopal Church in Wilmington, where the afternoon ceremony took place.

From State's first civil unions celebrated

By the power vested in me by the state of Delaware, I pronounce that their lives are joined in civil union," said the Rev. Patricia S. Downing, parish rector. "Those whom God has joined together, let no one put asunder."

In his sermon, [Delaware Senator Chris] Coons highlighted the Scripture read aloud moments before.

"They chose a Gospel that essentially says this: Do not judge and you will not be judged. Do not condemn, and you will not be condemned. Forgive and you will be forgiven. Give and it will be given to you," Coons said.

I think the Rev Downing is related to the unioned couple. Or maybe they’re triplets.

When Jesus said “do not judge”, he apparently meant we should approve and endorse any behavior.

Not only that, they (and too many others) all conveniently forgot that Jesus defined marriage.

And there came to him the Pharisees tempting him, and saying: Is it lawful for a man to put away his wife for every cause? Who answering, said to them: Have ye not read, that he who made man from the beginning, Made them male and female? And he said: For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife, and they two shall be in one flesh. Therefore now they are not two, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let no man put asunder.

Did the Episcopal Church ever teach the truth?

When Jesus said “do not judge”, he apparently meant we should approve and endorse any behavior.

That of course is "judge who will go to heaven or not". While still here on earth I believe we are to abide by what the good book tells us and it still says having sex with Sodomites, animals and relatives is an abomination.

There are Catholics like, e.g., Sr. Fran Ferder & Fr. John Heagle (Link), who would do this, if they could get away with it.

I'm mentioning them because I just today removed their affirmation-of-whatever-floats-your-boat sexuality book, "Tender Fires," from our parish library. My pastor agreed with me, thanked me for my oversight.

My house is heated by a wood stove. I always have an eye out for kindling.

Mrs. Don-o,
perfect! Best place for that sort of stuff, another good reason for a wood stove, and thank you for the laugh.

Why is this big news? The liberal radical homosexual activists have told us that civil unions are separate but equal.

These people are celebrating a civil union? They are celebrating a Jim Crow style event. Don’t they listen to their radical superiors, who have told us that it has to be marriage or nothing for homosexuals????????

You must be referring to one of those verses stamped with a big X in the Episcopalian's bibles. I'd think it's not an uncommon thing to see.

The Rev Downing just did away with our justice/jury system with her speech.
