Your problem, which is almost as common as liberalism, is that you confuse the prudential statements that you read in the DLEMM - Dominant Liberal Establishment Mass Media - with the actual teaching of the Church.
Actually, the problem is that the democrat party is a master dividing non-Catholic Christians and Catholics with the same old lies they've always used. They did it when public financing of education was the issue in the late eighteen hundreds, they did it during the decades leading up to Roe v. Wade, and they're doing the exact same thing again. This time, rather than going for an outright split between the two groups, they're working hard to keep non-Catholic Christians on the sidelines. They've already managed to have their fist big lie accepted, the lie that the majority of Catholics agree with the fascists in charge of the country right now when the truth is that nothing like a majority of practicing Catholics agrees with or has agreed with the fascists for quite a long time. Everyone who was baptized Catholic as a child isn't now and many never have been practicing Catholics but they're a practicing statistic when it comes time for propaganda. It's no different than the situation among non-Catholic Christians these days. Plenty of non-Catholic Christians go along with ordaining queers, and even more who claim to be Christian never darken the door of a Church but still show up as non-Catholic Christians in surveys. That doesn't mean "Christians are all for ordaining queers", it just means a lot of people claim to be Christian who really aren't just like a lot of people claim to be Catholic and really aren't.
The blather about excommunication I see crop up so often is just part and parcel of the same propaganda campaign, especially since there's no such thing as excommunication among those most frequently bashing the Church for not throwing people under the bus by the cart load. While I think high profile public figures like Pelosi the hag running HHS should be excommunicated, the Church has always been open to prodigal sons returning even after decades of ignoring the Church. The mere fact that excommunication is possible, though, becomes a propaganda tool to muddy the water and hide the truth. While The Church may well have a different attitude towards those who publicly defame and defy the Church in public office from now on, there will still be plenty of people who aren't practicing Catholics but who do show up as Catholics for propaganda purposes.
It's nothing to worry about, though, if the same democrat strategy that has always worked before works this time, there won't be any more battles over religious objections to anything ever again. The Fascists will have de facto established a State religion and the First Amendment will be history.
