A Catholic pastor in Vienna has resigned, after Cardinal Christoph Schönborn overruled his decision to exclude an active homosexual from a parish council.
Father Gerhard Swierzek had ruled that Florian Stangl could not sit on the parish council because he is openly engaged in a same-sex union. But after meeting with Stangl, Cardinal Schönborn reversed the pastors decision.

More of that homogenous view of theology the vicar is going to enjoy after moving from CoE to the Catholic playground. Pun intended.
Good for Father Svwerziek! It is time for the church to take back its moral stand, and once standing, stay standing! This is no time for retreat! I pray the faithful stand with him! God bless this man!

Probably one of Schönborn many boyfriends.
Schonborn IS a train wreck.
In Vienna, this is more than plausible.
I lived there fore years in connection with work. I don't think I have ever seen a more aggressively pro-gay culture than in good old Vienna.
Some years ago, very much under the radar, Ratzinger cleaned house at several Austrian Catholic seminaries -- shut them down completely and sent everybody home -- because they were nests of pro-gay agitation. It's the grads of those seminary years (before Ratzinger closed them down) that are populating the Roman pro-gay agenda in Austria, including Shoenbrunn.
JPII could never bring himself to believe the constant reports of gay rot in the church, as he had heard this for years about the Polish Catholic Church from the Communists. Ratzinger knows better.
The question is whether Ratzinger is willing to do the bloody, messy work of cleaning house far more publically. Such as by sacking Schoenbrunn and installing someone -- say from Nigeria -- as the new head of the Church in Austria.
