Catholic League president Bill Donohue comments as follows:
Jon Stewart refused to apologize last night for the unprecedented assault on Christian sensibilities he launched on April 16. In that episode, The Daily Show featured a naked woman with her legs spread and a nativity scene ornament placed between her legs; with the picture on the screen, Stewart laughed at what he called the vagina manger. To see the picture, click here.
Our effort against Stewart includes asking his most consistent sponsors to pull their advertising (if necessary, we are not ruling out a boycott of their products), and a lengthy public relations campaign. The goal? To get him to apologize. If that doesnt work, we can guarantee that his reputation will never be the same.
Today we will contact Kraft, one of whose products, MiO Energy, was one of the five sponsors that advertised on both the April 17 and April 18 episodes. Moreover, we will contact those on our Allied Organizations list (over two days) to join this campaign. They will be asked to contact Steve Albani, Senior VP of Comedy Central Communications, and Kraft.
This is just the beginning. Over the next several weeks, we will contact every major Catholic, Protestant, Jewish, Mormon and Muslim leader and organization in the nation; they will be sent the picture, along with Stewarts remarks. We will contact Viacom (which owns Comedy Central, home to The Daily Show) making sure that all board members and senior management know about Stewarts anti-Christian and grossly misogynist attack. We will take out ads in newspapers, etc. We are not going away.
What Jon Stewart did ranks with the most vulgar expression of hate speech ever aired on television. His incivility cannot go unanswered.
He is a sick, evil person ... the sort who are always drawn to Marxism. If only he’d gotten the help he needed, at some point.
Unfortunately, libtards quote this show to support their political views. This ba$tard and that other nasty clown that off-shooted from his show, Steven Colbert, are two of the most despicable people on tv, 2nd only to Maher.
They are tools of the Party, useful (for now) in deceiving the ignorant and foolish. When their utility is gone ... ZOT.
I just read “Obama Zombies,” by Jason Mattera, and learned more about “Stewart,” Colbert, and Maher than I liked. I’d really rather not know people like this existed. Here in my little bubble of surburbia, most people are nice ;-).
Even worse - he’s distinctly unfunny.
Just to add to your unwanted knowledge: about 6 years ago, I was invited to the Tony Awards here in Manhattan. It was held at Radio City Hall and Mr. Maher was sitting in the lobby with his “date” on his lap. She was one of the cheapest escorts I’ve ever seen!
Signed. I wish just once one of these evil POS would have the nerve to display Muslim symbology in such a way. That would be putting their money where their mouths are, instead of confining themselves to Christianity, because we don’t decapitate, jail, or otherwise harm people.
I have some optimism here. Maher was particularly foul until finally there were protests against him. And much the same with Keith Olbermann. Combined with their typical greed and demands they place on their network, and obnoxiousness in private as well as public, it just becomes easier to “shuffle them to the back”.
Olbermann would be lucky to be reading the farm report in Podunk right now, for minimum wage and no improv permitted. People have to pay to see Maher, bundled as a “no choice” if they want the good HBO programming.
But since Comedy Central is a Viacom product, much of the pressure should be directed at them as well as their majority stock holder, National Amusements, and its owner, Sumner Redstone.
Redstone is a political pragmatist, for example, publicly supporting W. Bush, but then giving money to John Kerry.
Even worse - hes distinctly unfunny.
Except for here : http://www.thedailyshow.com/watch/tue-september-15-2009/the-audacity-of-hos WARNING: there is bleeped profanity.
Christianity gets mocked because Christians, including myself, are as a whole, a joke.
Stewart and the left are always comfortable demonizing Christians while they avoid any utterance contemptuous of the ROP. If a person competent in image manipulation were to create stills of Stewart broadcasts, substituting ROP hate for the usual Christian hate, the resulting images would propagate across the web. Once the Stewart parodies were released into the wild, who’s to say what would be the resulting response from ROP adherents worldwide?
Serious Jewish leaders need to sit him down and explain to him that about the only place on Earth left where Jews are welcomed is North America. And that it is probably not a good idea to foul THIS nest.
I disagree. Christians, those who truly follow Christ, are not a joke. We are mocked because we won't cut their heads off. And nor should we. Christ did not teach that.
Really, vulgar displays such that Jon Stewart does for laughs are pretty petty and penny-ante. Pray for them. Hate isn't the answer here.
Just my $0.02
When I was young, my Dad told me that most guys became real friendly after they got a taste of their own blood. He did tell me that there are some guys who like pain, and watch out for them. I think old Jon likes pain. Ignore him like that cat turd on the side of the road that he is.
So much for the “glamorous” lives of media celebrities!
Two of my (Catholic) sisters just love him and think he is "smart and funny". I wonder how they like this recent foray of his into the realm of Christianity bashing.
His endless mugging is what repels me - how is that funny? I know he’s successful but he reminds me of the lousy 60s comedian, London Lee.
Even the premise of the joke is unfunny. Vagina Manger? What does that even mean?
The audience applauded because a sign told them to do so. Most were probably applauding while saying, “WTF?”
