In the Roman empire, the traditional bridal veil was vermilion, a bright yellow tending to orange. I assume that tradition continued in to Christian custom for some time.
The white bridal outfit, iirc, didn’t become the norm until the 19th century. Could that signal a culture that was getting to be less about matrimony and more about “weddings”?
Probably signalled a culture that was getting more prudish and thought red was evil.
