You know, that is the question I ask myself as I read the gospels. Why did Jesus speak in so many parables? Why didn't He just speak as plainly as Cardinal Dolan in this commencement address? Then I realize that He was attempting to speak to the people of that time in ways that they could best understand and that not all of what Jesus said was recorded in the gospels or the Acts. But God love Cardinal Dolan and may He give him long life to carry the Word forward in our time.
Yes, I know. The parables did caused bewilderment too, didn’t they?
God knows who will get the message, who will not, and then over the course of both time and events, the clarity is there, the picture is unveiled and all see who will see, are meant to see. The others will not see and knash their teeth.
Seems we are at the sheep and goat period, as evil is too obvious to be denied. The time of choosing is now, if ever.
Even the simple minded have to know by now that something isn’t right.
Why parables? Jesus gives the answer Himself:
And the disciples came, and said unto Him, Why do you speak unto them in parables? He answered and said unto them, Because it is given unto YOU to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but unto them it is NOT given. Matt 13:10-11
. . . but unto them it is NOT given. Jesus spoke in parables the majority of the people could NOT understand!
