Snakes have a pretty good sense of smell, right? They smell with that flicking tongue of theirs.

Is there something nice-smelling that will tempt Alice out of hiding?

You mentioned earlier that Alice couldn’t handle live mice. But I wonder if a live mouse might somehow be a better attraction with both motion, vibrations on the floor, and the heat?

I’m envisioning the mouse on a leash tied to a stick over the cardboard box. Although that never worked when I used to try catching rabbits when I was six!

Good luck in Alice’s return.

Just his supper and he may already be getting that on his own.

I’ve tried everything.

I had heat pads with thawed mice everywhere.

No joy.

He may be somewhere that he can’t find his way back, even if he wants to.

He may have ‘gone native’ and gotten over his fear of them.

I just don’t know.

I can set the mouse aquarium on the floor, I suppose.

Maybe he’d feel them running in their wheel or smell them.

Good luck. Our indoor cat got outside just the other night for the first time ever (well, since it wandered into our yard as a juvenile 5 years ago). I felt so bad to think of it being outside in the cold and rain and me leaving the door open that she wandered out of. But it knew enough to hide under our shed.

I imagine Alice is just as smart and found shelter in your home somewhere. A buddy of mine lost his large boa (6-foot plus) back at the multi-unit old house back in college. For years afterwards he would get calls every once in awhile from the landlord that someone had caught a glimpse of the snake before it went behind a board, etc.

Alice is probably making the most of his adventure, and perhaps a change in weather will prompt him to join you again.

LOL! Thank you for the demonstration! From one of those links I jumped to another that demonstrated the hue and cry that resulted from one member of the flock escaping the fence. Hooboy! Nevermind, don’t need that! (Altho the contented hens saying their “come back” was kinda soothing.)

I used to live within walking distance of my parents’ house, and I would occasionally walk down for a visit with my dogs alongside. The collie I had at the time loved both my parents. One autumn day we walked up while Dad was gathering leaves with a backpack blower. He shucked it off but was still wearing a dust mask so dirty it matched his skin. To the collie I suppose he looked like some kind of alien - she’d have nothing to do with him till he removed that too. Funny at the time how much it freaked her out.
