A funny (or not so funny) thought just occurred to me.

Why don’t all the DUIs of ministers or teachers make headlines like this?

RE: Statement regarding Archbishop Cordileone

Archbishop-designate Cordileone has asked that we share with you the following statement which he issued this afternoon:

“While visiting in San Diego this past weekend, I had dinner at the home of some friends along with a priest friend visiting from outside the country and my mother, who lives near San Diego State University. While driving my mother home, I passed through a DUI checkpoint the police had set up near the SDSU campus before I reached her home, and was found to be over the California legal blood alcohol level. “I apologize for my error in judgment and feel shame for the disgrace I have brought upon the Church and myself. I will repay my debt to society and I ask forgiveness from my family and my friends and co-workers at the Diocese of Oakland and the Archdiocese of San Francisco. I pray that God, in His inscrutable wisdom, will bring some good out of this.”

We ask you to keep Archbishop Cordileone in your prayers during this difficult time, as we know you will.

Several problems with this. First of all, doesn’t he warrant a driver? Second, he was born and raised in California, so he should know the rules about DUI. If anything, he should have refused the BAT and lost his driver’s license. He will anyway.

In California, though refusal *can* result in being put in jail for 48 hours, but typically that is only done for falling down drunks.

Re #13; This does sound like a political hit. But we all know that LEOs can not be corrupted.

Isn’t this guy much higher in the church than just being a preacher or teacher?

Isn’t he something of a national figure?

I know, however many issues you and I actually agree on, that you are no fan of Roman Catholicism. Archbishop Salvatore Cordileone is actually a star, however. He says Traditional Masses when asked. He cracks down on any sympathy posing in the pews in favor of gay anything. You can bet your bottom dollar that he is an eloquent enemy of babykilling. He was willing to take on the cesspool that is the San Fransicko Archdiocese of predecessors John Quinn and George Niederauer. He earned a verrrrry conservative reputation in the Oakland Diocese.

Understanding full well that you are a principled Reformed Christian, you should nonetheless pray for Archbishop Cordileone and give him some sympathy. He is likely no more impressed with Mittler than are you or I.

I also understand that you were properly correcting another poster on his/her factual error as to place of arrest. I just thought I might politely and respectfully head this off at the pass.

He was arrested at 12:30 am, in San Diego.

He is from San Diego and he was taking his mom home after dinner with friends. He has owned his fault, a man can do no more.

The Rev. Salvatore Cordileone was taken into custody after being stopped early Saturday at a police checkpoint near the San Diego State University campus, said Detective Gary Hassen, a police spokesman. He declined to comment on whether Cordileone took a sobriety test or reveal his blood-alcohol content.

I don't want to say I told them so, but....

On the surface, (arch)Bishop Salvatore Cordileone looks promising, but Niederauer looked promising, too and look how he worked out.

I only corrected someone who thought that he was coming home from dinner, in San Francisco.

I live in San Diego, I know where he is from, and that it was 12:30 am.

All that because I corrected the time and the city?

You have no idea what I feel about Catholicism, you know that I don’t like Catholic voters being a democrat voter group, what conservative would.

Head what off at the pass, just how arrogant and hostile are you to post something like all that to someone, for no reason?

Your presumptions and lack of restraint, are really something to behold.

More material for late night comedians and the Church's enemies.

I guess time will tell us whether he inadvertently took just one sip too many at dinner or whether he really hit the bottle hard but in a way, it doesn't really matter. All that people will remember is the bishop busted for "drunken driving" as the headline eloquently states.

I know he's human, just as we all are but I'm so tired of bishops apologizing for screwing up.
