New revelation: Mormons can drink Coke or Pepsi

SALT LAKE CITY — Maybe now, reporters, bloggers, outsiders and even many Mormons will accept that the Utah-based Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints does not forbid drinking cola.

On Aug. 29, the LDS church posted a statement on its website saying that “the church does not prohibit the use of caffeine” and that the faith’s health-code reference to “hot drinks” “does not go beyond (tea and coffee).”

A day later, the website wording was slightly softened, saying only that “the church revelation spelling out health practices … does not mention the use of caffeine.”

The same goes for the church’s two-volume handbook, which LDS leaders use to guide their congregations. It says plainly that “the only official interpretation of ‘hot drinks’ … in the Word of Wisdom is the statement made by early church leaders that the term ‘hot drinks’ means tea and coffee.”

"As Jesus said: “Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye?” Enough said. Have a nice day."

Don't forget the next verse. "First get the plank out of your own eye, so that you can see clearly to help get the speck out of your brother's eye."

Jesus never said don't help your brother remove the speck. Just make sure that you see clearly first.

Simple formula:

Unrighteous judgment: He is a sinner and I am better than him...time for some fun gossip!

Righteous judgment: He is a sinner just like me. He needs to know about Christ’s forgiveness.

The hysteria of your responses demonstrates you know full well you are NOT acting in a Christ like spirit.

You have been justly reproved. Be adults and learn from it rather then just cling to your evil based emotional responses.

The Abortion Weathervane

"Far from pushing an extreme pro-life agenda, Romney has ducked the issue whenever possible. And when forced to take a stand, he has always picked the position least likely to get him in political trouble. Sometimes he has posed as a pro-lifer. Sometimes he has posed as a pro-choicer. He’s not an extremist. He’s a weathervane."

Rather then knee jerk respond in under 60 seconds, try thinking about the point made to you before firing off a predetermined response.

Actually there were six:
(took this off a post from svcw)
I saw a chart once that showed fourteen.

In 1832: he said he was age 16, in the wilderness, pillar of light spoke to him

In 1834: he said he was age 15, was awakened, just started thinking about God

In 1835: he said he was age 14, in a grove, a single personage spoke to him

In 1840: he said he was age 14 or 15, by his house, two glorious personages

In 1842: he said he was age 14, a secret place, fire pillar or two personages

In 1842: he said it was early 1820, in a secret grove, two people who glowed

Interesting really, I know if I saw God Almighty, in person, my account would not ever change one iota, every detail would be remembered in glorious detail.

It just goes to show you when you lie, the events always change.

Judge not, that ye be not judged.

What's the rest of the passage go on to say? By quoting only that verse, you are essentially misquoting it. Standing alone it reads as a prohibition but if you continue on to Matthew 7:2-5, it is clear from its context that it is a precaution against hypocrisy, not a prohibition.

So when they continued asking him, he lifted up himself, and said unto them, He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her.

You are familiar with the context of this verse, aren't you? Well, apparently not. The hypocrisy of the mob, egged on by the Scribes and Pharisees, was multi-leveled. The Scribes and Pharisees who were threatened by Jesus had been and were continuing here to trap Jesus into violating the Jewish laws. Jesus understood their motives. In addition, to add to their hypocrisy, the accusers stated they caught her in the very act of adultery. So where is the other party who should also be punished?

If one is not allowed to criticize, should you not condemn Jesus who criticized the Scribes and Pharisees continually? Remember Jesus called them vipers, hypocrites, white-washed tombs, etc. What about Paul, the other New Testament writers, the Old Testament prophets, John the Baptist, etc. who aggressively criticized false teachers?

I don’t spend all of my time trash-talking Romney. But neither do I worship at his feet or call him our next King David, as I have on FR. Cults of personality are dangerous things.

You say we are desperate to help elect Obama. This is another judgement you’ve made, while telling the rest of us not to judge. Why do you consider yourself exempt from your own rule?

Ok, you win I have know idea what you are talking about. You appear to be responding to post #1, and there is nothing there and there is the fact I do not do hysterical replies.

For a guy who claims every one is judging, you sure spend a lot of energy typing judgments.

Thanks roylene.

Now Steven Florida. Read post #66. That is from a man Mormon's claim to be a prophet of God. Who claimed all Christian denominations were abominations to God. And I'm not supposed to ridicule that their prophet can't keep his story straight?????

Any Mormon that looked objectively at the evidence, would conclude that Joseph Smith was no prophet.

Romney agrees with 85% of our position.

Just keep repeating it and maybe you'll even believe it yourself. NO ONE ELSE DOES!

MNJ, this is yet another instance of you making a judgment while telling everyone else they have no right to do so. And in fact, your judgement is based on emotionalism, rather than Scripture, which is the basis we are to use. You don't seem able to explain why you have the only exemption to judge, nor why we are to ignore Scripture's plain, repeated exhortations to judge false teachings.

I'll give it one last try. Can you calm down and address my questions to you? Or will you continue to dodge and deflect in your unfortunately heated manner?

Because in MHO they are from the Democratic Underground and are trying to destroy Romney in order to elect Obama. They are wolves (Democrats) in Sheeps (Christians) clothing. Either that or just idiots...it’s a toss up! :)

I’m thinking of the verses in Romans 8:9c; 8:14; 8:16-17)

“Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of His.”

“For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.” (8:14)

“The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God: And if children, then heirs of God,
and joint-heirs with Christ, if so be that we suffer with Him, that we may be also glorified together.” (8:16-17)

I’ve been a faithful member for over 30 years, and never heard of anything like that. Not to worry. Lots of things get said by well-intentioned folk who just don’t have the straight skinny. If I was to guess, I would say that that sort of thing might have started when someone saw a type of kosher mark that they were not familiar with, and someone else made a guess based on a partial understanding of Mormon scripture.

Thank you for proving my point.

None of you are acting in a Christ like spirit. Instead you are acting in a spirit of ego, spite and malice because your candidate of choice did not win the GOP nomination
