I would say so. Can you think of some well-known Catholic preachers in the last 25 years? I can't think of any unless you want to list the popes. But I don't think anyone thinks of them as “preachers”.

Well, I was immediately thinking of Fulton Sheen. He was a truly gifted Catholic preacher. OTOH, I do believe he has been deceased more than 25 years.

One really great Catholic “preacher” is Rev. George Rutler.
