Election results reveal God is winning [Mormonism is winning]
Washington Post ^ | November 7, 2012 | Kathryn Skaggs

-SNIP-

Though a Romney win, by many indicators felt within reach, it didn’t happen. However, the fact that it almost did - and with very few variables could have - this reality has changed everything for members of The Church of Jesus Christ of latter-day Saints (Mormon) – for the good.

-SNIP--

As members of the LDS Church have taken increased opportunities to discuss their faith because of interest in Mitt Romney’s Mormonism, over time it became increasingly evident that no matter what sensitive issue came our way, be it baptism for the dead, racism, polygamy, Mormon temple worship, gender equality, etc… the chance to share our faith while clarifying Mormon teachings turned out to be a net positive.

-SNIP-

This evidence clearly suggests that Mormonism, now, can and should be considered a mainstream Christian religion.

-SNIP-

We have no interest, other than the hope of a general acceptance of our faith as Christian: to be considered the same as other Christian faiths. We understand that our message that boldly proclaims a restoration of the original Christian Church that Jesus Christ organized when He was upon the earth can be, at first, unsettling – and we’re perfectly all right with such reactions. We want our message to be different enough to compel the curious into allowing us to tell that story.

-SNIP-

As a Mormon, I see great hope in the results of this election. It has brought Mormonism out from relative obscurity, now clearly to be considered a mainstream Christian religion

LDS doctrine believe in the Godhead; which includes God the Father, his son-Jesus Christ, and the Holy Ghost.

Yes God created mankind, just below the Angels. That is our position in intelligence and ability of reason. Angels are a spiritual creation, mankind is the secondary mortal creation. The soul of man is a combination of the spirit and body of man.

This doctrine is perfectly taught by the example of Jesus Christ. Christ lived in the pre-existence, recieved a body through birth, his body died, and his spirit re-united with a glorified immortally ressurected body.

One of the main teachings of the New Testament which has completely missed you, is the example of the physical ressurection of Jesus Christ.

Christ’s ressurection is indisputable, and that it was an example for all mankind to also be likewise ressurected is scriptually sound.

Your problem, is that when Roman Emperors dictated christian doctrine, Christ’s ressurection didn’t fit in the Nicene Creed. The Creed and Christ’s physical ressurection where completely incompatable.

Consequently, main-stream Christianity solved that problem by re-interpreting Christ’s physical ressurection to subordinate it to the Nicene Creed.

Dont’t you know this stuff? It’s pretty basic.

Christ had, and currently has a ressurected body, nowhere in the New Testament does is say that Christ used his ressurected body to fake us out ... nor does it say that he ever ditched it when he got to heaven. Instead two angels standing by at the final assencion stated that Christ in a similar way would return. Which I assume means with his ressurected body.

Sorry that New Testament teaching didn’t make the Emperors edits.

One cannot obtain salvation and remain in ignorance to the Word. Once a person is born again, the Holy Spirit guides him/her into the Truth - which is in Jesus Christ.

How can you reconcile Jesus Christ as being the only begotten of the Father is one breath, then in another say He was a spiritual brother to Satan, just as we are?

Satan isn’t mortal, never was and never will be. Jesus became flesh - In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God and the Word was God and the Word became flesh. You’ll find this in 1 John.

I agree and it is disturbing how many so called Christians just threw their faith out the window for a possible political gain.

I have never and will never deny the resurrection. Its our hope. Where you get this is beyond my comprehension. Man was created a living soul - God breathed into the nostrils of Adam and he became a living soul. We are a triune being just as God is - we are body, soul and spirit. God is Father, Son and Holy Spirit and we were created in God’s image. The angels are not.

I don’t know anything about the Nicene Creed. What are you talking about faked us out? Your points are screwed up. I don’t dispute the resurrected body of Christ. You are judging Christianity based on a false assumption with an air of superiority while hanging on to your damnable heresies.

For the love of pete! You can’t think of a better way to spend thanksgiving?

I thank God for his many mercies in my life, I thank him for the condescension of his son to come down to earth, and atone for my sins. I thank him for the freedoms that I still enjoy, and I covenant with him to keep his commandments, as I understand them.

I love my country, my wife and my God, and wish all men to have a wonderful day spent in thanks giving and love. This thread it’s incompatible with me today, so I won’t be back.

Love to you all, the spirit of Jesus Christ I leave with you, go forth and be thankful!

Delph

Tepid, you are repeating LDS mis-statement of Christian Church history.

The Trinity was believed and taught long before Constantine. The council just restated a position that was in line with the Bible and early Christian thought.

Don’t drink the Kool-Aid and actually study Christian church history.

I didn’t throw out my faith for political gain. The alternative was the reason for my vote for Romney. Unfortunately, we got the alternative for the next 4 years. It came down to a choice between a person of high moral character who believed a false doctrine, and a person with lack of moral character who believes in God only knows what. Islam? Black Liberation theology? And who also believes that there are many paths to God, when the Bible clearly teaches there is only one way to the Father and that is through His son, Jesus Christ.

Good advice. While the term Trinity isn’t in the Word - the term Godhead is.

This only strengthens the fact that Mormons do have animosity toward Christianity.

Catsrus,

Why would I have animosity toward Christains? I believe in Jesus Christ, and if Christianity is defined as a belief in Christ, I am a Christian.

What I have discomfort in is those Christians who insist on persecuting other Christians that don’t have identical beliefs.

History is rife with Christians of your belief murdering Christians of my belief. It started in the 5th Century through the Eddict of Thessalonica, and most recently in the 19th Century.

Why do you think my ancestors fled te Eastern US and settled in Utah?

Simply because Christians of your belief system insisted on murdering Christians of my belief system.

Thank goodnes for the modern Justice system, or your brand of Christianity would still be intent on killing the rest of us.

nlike you, I believe that Jesus Christ is the literal spiritual and mortal Son of God the Eternal Father,

- - - - - -

Does that include through sex with Mary??

BTW, the Bible teaches that Jesus was concieved by the Holy Ghost not God the Father.

The entire problem with Mormonism is it starts with a false Paterology - if your theology of God the Father (aka theology proper) is flawed, by necessity all of your other theology is flawed.

Another point, is Mormons ALWAYS and CONSISTENTLY take the Bible out of context when they use it to ‘prove’ Mormon doctrine and a quick glance at any of their proof texts easily disproves their claim.

Teppe, CHRISTIANS (not all people) are ADOPTED spiritually by God, Paul does not teach we are spirit children by birth like you claim.

Here are quotes by LDS leadership about the nature of the relationship of God and Mary.

The fleshly body of Jesus required a Mother as well as a Father. Therefore Father and Mother of Jesus, according to the flesh, must have been associated together in the capacity of Husband and Wife; hence the Virgin Mary must have been, for the time being, the lawful wife of God the Father...” Apostle Orson Pratt The Seer, Oct. 1853, page 158

The birth of the Saviour was as natural as are the births of our children; it was the result of natural action. He partook of flesh and blood—was begotten of his Father, as we were of our fathers.” Brigham Young Journal of Discourses, vol. 8, p. 115

Christ was begotten by an immortal Father in the same way that mortal men are begotten; and Son means son. Christ was begotten by an Immortal Father in the same way that mortal men are begotten by mortal fathers.” Mormon Doctrine, 1979, pages 546-47 Apostle Bruce R. McConkie

It was also lawful in Him, after having dealt with Mary, to give her to Joseph her espoused husband. Whether God the Father gave Mary to Joseph for time only, or for time and eternity, we are not informed. Inasmuch as God was the first husband to her, it may be that He only gave her to be the wife of Joseph while in this mortal state, and that He intended after the resurrection to again take her as one of his own wives to raise up immortal spirits in eternity.” The Seer, Oct. 1853, pg. 158

McConkie

Brigham Young: ‘’ l believe the Father came down from heaven, as the Apostles said he did, and begat the Savior of the World; for He is the Only Begotten of the Father which could not have been if the Father did not actually beget him in person’’. (Journal of Discourses Vol. 1 page 238) AND ‘’The birth of the Savior was as natural as are the births of our children ; it was the result of natural action. He partook of flesh and blood—was begotten of his Father, as we were of our fathers’’ (Journal of Discourses Vol. 8 page 115)

Physical relations between God and Mary has been clearly advocated in the Church by such authorities as Brigham Young [1], Orson Pratt [2], Heber C. Kimball [3], Joseph F. Smith, [4], Joseph Fielding Smith [5], James E. Talmage [6], Melvin J. Ballard [7], J. Reuben Clark [8], Bruce R. McConkie [9], and Ezra Taft Benson [10]. Mormons believe that Christ was literally the Son of God in the flesh, and he was conceived in a natural, physical way according to eternal law.

Heber C. Kimball “In relation to the way in which I look upon the works of God and his creatures, I will say that I was naturally begotten; so was my father, and also my Saviour Jesus Christ. According to the Scriptures, he is the first begotten of his father in the flesh, and there was nothing unnatural about it.” (Journal of Discourses, 8:211)

“Christ Not Begotten of Holy Ghost... Christ was begotten of God. He was not born without the aid of Man, and that Man was God!” (Doctrines of Salvation, Joseph Fielding Smith, 1954, 1:18).

Bruce McConkie “These name-titles all signify that our Lord is the only Son of the Father in the flesh. Each of the words is to be understood literally. Only means only; Begotten means begotten; and Son means son. Christ was begotten by an Immortal Father in the same way that mortal men are begotten by mortal fathers.” (Mormon Doctrine, 1979, pages 546-47)

There is nothing figurative about his paternity; he was begotten, conceived and born in the normal and natural course of events, for he is the Son of God, and that designation means what it says.” (Mormon Doctrine, 1966, p. 742)

“There is no need to spiritualize away the plain meaning of the scriptures. There is nothing figurative or hidden or beyond comprehension in our Lord’s coming into mortality. He is the Son of God in the same sense and way that we are the sons of mortal fathers. It is just that simple.” (The Promised Messiah: The First Coming of Christ, p. 468)

Actually Bishop Romney is not a Christian at all, so it doesn’t make sense to compare him to good or bad Christians and ask if he is a better Christian than they are.

Romney is pro-abortion as well, as he is full blown, pro-homosexual, and believes that he will become a God.

Reagant, please read Oridgen, and other of the pre nicene -post apostolic writtings, and you will find that my difinition of Jesus Christ was very prevalent.

If your view of Christ was so established ... why did it take Imperial Execution to erradicate any other viewpoint?

Was God behind all those murders? If so, then why wasn’t he also behind the later version of those murders during the more recent inquisitions?

..maybe Reaganut you should read Christian History ... not the White-washed version that supports your belief system, but the entire version which your supporters won through bloodshed.

Please include the early Church Father such as Oridgen and Tertullian (other’s are good, but those are the ones I am most familiar with)
