“When it is used for good, there is no other economic system that can touch it. But in the hands of evil men, it can be the worst.”

IMO capitalism is always good. The consumer doesn’t have to buy a company’s product if they don’t like the way they conduct business.

CRONY capitalism is what happens when the government gets into business with corporations under the guise of “regulation.” When that happens, the consumer no longer has the power to boycott effectively.

Weeellll, if at least one person isn’t ticked off at you- then you probably aren’t doing your job.

John 15:18
If the world hate you, ye know that it hated me before it hated you.

In my opinion that’s what the RCC SHOULD be doing. GIVE TO THE POOR! They don’t need to drive Lotuses, wear $400 Prada shoes and live in palaces while “representing” the same Christ who stood for the exact opposite.

I would gather (by his last name) that he is of Italian stock. Many people from Argentina are.

Since he is also from Latin America, could it be that the Cardinals wanted to get a twofer in a link between the Old World and the New.

He does not look like a lefist. He may simply be a Jesuit with a Francisian spirituality. That does happen.

So the “Catholic Obama” will “embrace homosexual marriage”?

He didn’t seem to in 2010 when his letter to the President of Argentina about the effort to legalize gay marriage read: “Let’s not be naive, we’re not talking about a simple political battle; it is a destructive pretension against the plan of God. We are not talking about a mere bill, but rather a machination of the Father of Lies that seeks to confuse and deceive the children of God.”

By lacking the humility to do even a bit of basic Internet research on the new Pope because in your pride you couldn’t wait to attack him, you’ve really embarrassed yourself, Dr. Thorne. Dr. Thorne, I’d advise you to try to learn something from the obvious humility of Pope Francis. Also look up this Scripture: “Pride goes before the fall”.

He asked every one to pray for him.

He’ll follow the simple papal installation ceremony this coming Sunday in the footsteps of John Paul II and Pope Benedict XVI.

A holy man should be serene, humble and be a servant of God. I think he’s qualified on all counts and was a swift consensus choice of the cardinals.

The Church is badly divided and he’ll unite and heal it.

“Catholic social ministry begins and ends with Jesus Christ,” he said. “If it doesn’t, it isn’t Catholic.”

He will probably be conservative on moral issues, less so on economic ones-

He is the vicar of Christ on earth not a political leader. He will, hopefully lead more people back to Christ and his humble teachings and not preach to us about "social justice". Taking the name Francis is significant I believe. Let us be humble and help one another.

He is NOT a liberal.....ALL Popes and even all Catholics are for taking care of the poor. We have the BIGGEST Charity in the WORLD that takes care of MILLIONS of poor people!! <P.Actually ALL CHRISTIANS believe it’s the Christian way to take care of the poor.....poor in spirit is worse than being money poor.

You posted to Dr Thorne:

1) By lacking the humility...

2) in your pride you couldn’t wait...

3) you’ve really embarrassed yourself...

4) Dr. Thorne, I’d advise you to try to learn something...

Then you go on to say
***Also look up this Scripture: "Pride goes before the fall"***

Perhaps you can give us a link to where that is in the Bible?

It might be a good idea to find a Bible and, with humility, look up destruction and a haughty spirit.

Its a misrepresentation of the scriptures that Jesus always spoke of giving up wealth. Jesus spoke overwhelmingly of eternal life not poverty but social justice proponents lie about this all the time. Go through the new testament and highlight references to money, the poor etc. The theme is not there as often as progressives would have you think.

You’re right. In some ways, Obama practices a type of capitalism. It’s crony capitalism, so there are bad types of capitalism.

I find it interesting that they chose him as he has a leading role during the Argentine economic crisis.

Given the current world economics I wonder if how he fulfilled that leadership role played heavily into his selection as Europe teeters on the brink of collapse.

Nonsense. I bet you won’t remember to come back and say you were wrong when six months pass and your predictions based purely on your hunch is proven wrong.
