Agree, we dont know yet how Orthodox he is but taking on the president of Argentine publicly on homosexual marriage and inadvertently calling them followers of the Father of Lies is an indicator.
Well, I will certainly agree it is an indicator of his boldness, which is very good, and his orthodoxy on that particular position. I just don't go in for the new Christian model of orthodoxy which defines the entirety of the faith in regards to one or two very controversial issues. To be orthodox means more than merely opposing abortion and gay marriage. These are important moral issues, but they don't comprise the Christian faith.
Bottomline - I’m a Catholic layperson - period. Sometimes one finds oneself debating on political terms rather than theological. One is either a Catholic meaning they follow the docrine of the Mystical Body or they’re not. I don’t believe there are any degrees. Thusfar Pope Francis is following Catholic theology and then some...
