The ones I have seen gone “progressive” - gay, gun control, big government, etc.

They gain a few far left parishioners. And some “good” press.

They lose at least half of their core members.

The funny thing - the core members were the ones who would really sacrifice, give up their time, care for the church, put money in the plate while going without.

The new far left members - let’s just say if there is a choice between a sale at their favorite clothing store/new menu at the local left wing restaurant or giving to the church - the church is not getting much (time or treasure).

People know what is the work go God. The Bible in written in plain language. Those bedrock people are the ones who make a church and keep it going.

Of course, churches with large, progressive members, will lose out on stewardship of people who are tireless givers of their time.

As I have witnessed in a few progressive congregations, they must rely on paid staff, staff while no doubt good, decent and loyal, will never be able to accomplish what a group of devoted believers would.
