You're Probably Not Saved, Yet.
Beyond Today ^ | 2013 | Various

How do you know you're saved?

Imagine you arrive at a most important banquet that's hosted by Christ Himself. After all--you're a Christian. Picture coming to His home and walking right up to the door. Perhaps you're a little surprised that the door is closed and you're shut outside. But not to be deterred, you knock and knock. No response, no reaction. So you call out, "Jesus open the door, Lord it's me." Still, no response, no reaction. At long last, you hear Jesus' voice and He says, "I never knew you!" What a devastating and shocking situation in which to find yourself.

Sorry my friend but since you posted your response 3 minutes after the link was posted I'm going to assume that:

1. You didn't even watch the video.
2. You didn't read the transcript.
3. Your question isn't based on the transcript or the show. :-)

Obedience (works) is an essential part of faith. You cannot have a living faith without works—obeying God.

You know, most folks won’t spend much time watching video unless the teaser script makes some sort of sense.

They go hand in hand don't they?

Ah no. Clearly you don’t know what Calvinism teaches. These are Armstrongists, the descendants of the WWCOG.

This unorthodox theology is a product of the late Herbert W. Armstrong's Worldwide Church of God.

Sorry friend but I read the transcript and it espoused synergy with God, denying His promise of Salvation in the sole work of Christ on the Cross (Solus Christus), substituting some action/support/help from mankind to accomplish what he promised in Genesis 3.

What other meaning do you assign to Christ’s proclamation from the Cross of “It is finished.”?

***...After all—you’re a Christian....”I never knew you!”***

Nope.

That is not at all what the passage in question describes.

In the passage the person is appealing to his good works as the reason to let him in. His faith is not once used as a claim. Reliance on works is the road to damnation.

Matthew 7:22 On that day many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?’ 23 And then will I declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from me, you workers of lawlessness.’

It’s called a covenant for a reason.

I don't care what Herbert Armstrong said or didn't say. All I care about is that it's scriptural. Refute or confirm the scriptural proofs in the show or transcript and then make a judgment my friend.

:: Refute or confirm the scriptural proofs in the show or transcript ::

Ephesians 2:8b-9a, “and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast.”

Accessible to any properly instructed 7-year old (paraphrase of Martin Luther).

Heb_5:9 And having been perfected, He became the author of eternal salvation to all who obey Him,

Rev_14:12 Here is the patience of the saints; here are those who keep the commandments of God and the faith of Jesus.

I'm not sure how obeying God is an invalid "work" especially when the bible is crystal clear about it.

What other meaning do you assign to Christ’s proclamation from the Cross of “It is finished.”?

I would say that it was his death on the cross that made salvation possible. And when he died this act was finished. Are you making the case that this act automatically granted salvation to everyone regardless of belief, faith or works? Or was it potential salvation?

The scripture you posted clearly says that those who were turned away worked "lawlessness". This is and can only be a willfull disobedience to the laws of God. In other words, these folks claimed Christ and believed they were following Christ but their beliefs and actions told Christ otherwise

Definitely not Calvinist. It’s very Evangelical.

.

OK ... so I watched the video.

This video and line of inquiry is disturbing.

I have been a born-again evangelical Christian for 50 some years.

I have seen "christian cults" emotionally and mentally abuse otherwise innocent Christians into terrible gynastics over whether or not they were genuinely "born again" ...

or why they were (supposedly) not healed because they lacked faith.

These examples are pretty disgusting to view first hand.

When I read the scripture (Matt 7:22) ...

Many will say to me on that day, 'Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name and in your name drive out demons and in your name perform many miracles?'

and yet The Lord rejects them ...

I naturally ask ... "what about me ?"

Sure, there are phony-pastors and imposters that The Lord will reject pn judgement day,

but what about the rest of us ?

Articles on this subject (usually accompanied by an donation request or invitation to a Magazine Subscription) are ALWAYS suspect.

We all know that, like the Jewish Pharisees of Christ's time, there are "always" religious "leaders" who want the rest of us to follow them around like poodles ...

always learning ... always working ... always giving ...

but to what end ?

It's usually to enrich some pastor's ego, or grow his mega-church.

Enough said about that.
