Larry King is right sort of. Homosexual attractions are no more sins than heterosexual ones. What are sins are acting out homosexual attractions or those attractions to fornication, child abuse and adultery to name a few. Another sin is to celebrate and approve of those acts. A further sin is to condemn the person who engages in the acts.
Hate the sin and love the sinner preacherman
Bingo. Had Joel been better prepared for this obvious “gotcha” question, he could’ve said something more along the lines of:
“Larry, the sin isn’t based on whether or not you’re born attracted to members of the same sex. Heck, we can even come to a settled conclusion on if it’s biological or a choice! But regardless of how homosexuality comes about, I do believe the sin occurs when the attraction is acted upon. Like it or not, Larry, the Holy Bible repeatedly condemns the practice of homosexuality in both the Old and New Testament. As a Christian, I accept the Holy Bible as God’s Word and I don’t pick and choose only the parts I like, nor do I believe God’s words are subject to amendment, modification, or ratification by Man. If you want to take the issue up with God, Larry, I wholeheartedly believe you’ll get your chance someday when we will all ultimately come before Him for our final judgment. But until then, I accept the creation of Adam and Eve — one woman and one man — as the natural order of human sexuality. There is no other way to continue procreation of the human species and I think that in and of itself speaks volumes.”
I would also add:
“Larry, I believe that all people, including homosexuals, can attain eternal salvation and enter the Kingdom of Heaven when we acknowledge and accept that we are sinners, accept the Lord Jesus Christ as our personal savior, and ask Him for the forgiveness of our sins.”
