(NYC Mayor) DE BLASIO BOYCOTTS ST. PAT’S PARADE

Bill Donohue comments on the decision by New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio not to march in this year’s St. Patrick’s Day parade:

This is the first time in New York City history that its mayor has decided to boycott the St. Patrick’s Day parade. Personally, I am delighted: I lead the Catholic League contingent every year, and I do not want to march with a public official who does not want to be associated with Irish Catholics.

De Blasio says he will not march because the parade does not allow pro-gay signs. Neither does it allow pro-life ones. The great myth has always been that the parade is anti-gay: in previous years, I have gone on the radio inviting gays to march with the Catholic League, provided they do not draw attention to themselves or to some extrinsic cause. The parade is not about homosexuals, or abortion, or anything other than honoring St. Patrick.

The mayor says he won’t accede to the request by gay activists to ban city workers from marching. So kind of him—otherwise he would be looking at an insurrection.

At Patrick’s day is a catholic celebration. And if you haven’t celebrated it it NUC, then what is it you’re waiting for?

The knights of Columbus, the bands fring schools in the area. Factions of firefighting units and police from the area. Unrestricted allowance of beer drinking and, my favorite, th Royal Ancient Hibernians. The only group with a real discrimination. You have to be a guy (I’m a girl, but have many family members both with us and passed on), an Irishman either 3/4,1/2, 1/8, 1/16 or none at all. If you’re gay, be gay, just don’t talk about it

St Patrick was dedicated, as all saints, bar none, th Jesus, to spreading His word, and to His dear mother

the parade does not like anyone bringing ANY political agenda of their own into the ranks of those who march, thus neither a so-labeled “gay” contingent” nor a so-labeled “pro life” contingent has been allowed to march, which makes the parade an equal opportunity discriminator - against any personal politics

Why carp and moan about de Blasio? He won in a landslide so maybe the better question is: how many of NYC's Irish community voted for the jerk, just as their cousins to the NE voted for Teddy and constantly elect ultraLiberal prodeathers election after election?

The problem isn't de Blasio. It's the Irish "Catholics" who vote for these crumbs.

"He was Wilhelm (german/dutch?) who changed his name three times to now a fake Italian. Is he going to cover the Five Points with each new name change?"

I think he's simply trying to pay homage to each of the Axis powers. If his next name is Nagamichi Akasaka, we'll know for sure.

And who did the Protestants and other non-Catholics vote for? Why pick on just the Catholics?

Why pick on just the Catholics?

In this case?: is not St Patrick a celebration most often associated with Irish Catholics? Have you ever looked at the demographics for residents of the NE? Are you aware that nearly 30% of US Catholics live in the NE? Who do you think elects bums like the Kennedys and other pretend Catholics? Are you aware, The Irish community is one of New York's major ethnic groups and has been a significant proportion of the city's population since the waves of immigration in the mid-19th century. New York City's St. Patrick's Day Parade dates to 1762.? Are you aware, The five largest reported ancestries in Massachusetts are: Irish (23.8%)? Just who do you think elects these bums like de Blasio and Teddy, either by actively voting for them, or sitting out the elections?

Btw, on another thread about the Scottish Parliament approving homo marriage, I noted "John Knox must be spinning in his grave", as that nation, which was once in the forefront of the Prostestant Reformation has completely lost its way..

Christianity is in retreat everywhere and it's because too many of its supposed adherents no longer walk the walk, whether Catholic or Protestant.

A landslide? Only 22% of eligible voters voted. He won the majority of that pathetic showing.

>> whether Catholic or Protestant.

Yet your emphasis is on the Catholics.

This NE Irish Roman Catholic thinks your remarks are short-sighted.

Wrong! St Patrick was Irish. He was captured in a pirate raid and sold as a slave. He later wound up in Rome became a Christian and a priest. He returned to Ireland and preached the Gospel converting many. He was one of many “peregrines” who had gone to Rome to take orders and returned to Ireland

Yet the Christian faith is growing in the “global south nations” of Africa, Asia, and South America.

The Irish ‘Catholics’ I know are a puzzlement To get them to mass on Christmas is like Noah coaxing giraffes in the rain to get on the boat. It’s like a russell Crowe drama

Their Catholicism goes back to the fifth century when st Patrick converted the pagans to Catholicism. So, for sixteen centuries, now going on seventeen, their ancestors practice Catholicism Its not like they all were pagan for a century or so and then another time all married Jewish and then went back to Catholicism. They were catholic for sixteen centuries

I knew their grandmothers, who knew their own grandmothers They practiced and propagated the faith

I knew an Irish American man who was born in 1888. He had a seat on the stock exchange. He had a lot of wealth besides. Went into manhattan every day He wore a miraculous medal gold hand made huge. You couldn’t wear it in public now, some heroin seeker would grab it. This man would not let a day go by without saying the rosary with his wife. And that was the norm

You tell me what happened.

The ones I know vote republicans Kennedy’s but the women are as culturally liberal as you could imagine. We went to the same schools, knew the same people some shared grandparents and old aunts

If they went to catholic college, forget it, but it happened before that.

The entire region is in trouble The Kennedys tipified the situation

But like wit Obama, he did get voted it, or close enough to it

The ancient order of Hibernians are outspoken in their anti abortion position

They don’t do a march for life at the st Patrick’s day parade but it is known that they have this position. And they use it, I think, appropriately, the marched for life in Ireland when legalized abortion was getting pushed recently

And the AOH keeps political groups from taking over the parade. They don’t need a sign that says we’re pro life. They’re the leaders of a catholic parade
