Are You, or Have You Ever Been, a Member of the Catholic Church?

Yesterday, the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child issued a report, purportedly over the sexual abuse scandal involving the Catholic Church. Forget for a moment the average Catholic’s (need I qualify that with “non-dissenting”?…or “orthodox”?) bias in reading this report…and forget for a moment the facts of the scandal…that’s what most of the “top and bottom of the hour” reporting is focusing on…yet, this same UN report is attempting to get the Vatican to change its own doctrine and canon law. How consonant this is with the current Administration’s chilling efforts related to the HHS contraception/abortifacient mandate as well (Sebellius and Little Sisters of the Poor) as the general trend of lawsuits related to the redefinition of marriage (Christian bakers and gay “marriage” wedding cakes).

The highest is clearly in the secular realm, which while being no excuse for that in churches, reveals the double standard.

Coming to a church near you.

Good point. “You” play footsie with global leftist organizations they will eventually exact their pound of flesh. Meaning the Vatican has harbored and encouraged the globalists even financing joint efforts. Now the pound of flesh.

Par for the course here. Every pedophile priest article is posted by Roman Catholics to attract comments to reinforce the perceived persecution complex.

They are dual purpose posts. On the one hand as in the above appeal to the persecution complex; on the other hand an apolgetics piece to affirm the transgressions of clergy just “ain’t so bad as people think.”

You will always be a Catholic if you were baptized or confirmed in the Catholic Church. Those indelible marks of these two sacraments will never disappear.

Find a priest and sit down and get your questions answered. Father Paul Scalia, son of Justice Scalia serves in Virgina, I believe. Find him and talk with him.

When you joined the Catholic Church as an adult you were baptized and confirmed, correct?

Those marks will forever be on your soul. You will always be a Catholic.

"The Committee also charged the Church with contributing to violence against homosexuals: “The Holy See’s past statements and declarations on homosexuality which contribute to the social stigmatization of and violence against lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender adolescents and children raised by same-sex couples.”

Boy is the UN way off the mark here. The cities in which homosexuals have been the LEAST harassed are those which were heavily populated with Catholics, early on. New Orleans and San Francisco were largely Catholic cities, yet homosexuals were not treated badly there, compared to some other places.

The Church has always taught, as I taught to my high school CCD class, that Jesus hates the sin, but loves the sinner. Showing compassion and concern, while NOT soft pedaling the teaching, is a better way to have someone listen to the message.

And it was Catholic hospitals which cared for more AIDS patients than many others, back during the 80s, when it got lots of press, but you'd never have known it by the negativity toward the Church from AIDS activists.

No.
But, I was tossed out of a Catholic church once.

You have to know, Salvation, that many baptized Catholics do not follow the rules of the Church. You must be aware that many don't go to Sunday Mass every week, do not go to confession/reconciliation, engage in sex before marriage, live together before marriage.

How many get divorced and remarry?

Regardless of these actions which go against the teachings of the Church, you believe they are still Catholics.

I don't understand that thinking. While some would like to call themselves Catholic, there are others who no longer identify with the Catholic Church.

I think they should have that freedom to decide.

The UN as you inducated is controlled by Anti American Socialists and Islamists. SO I did what I recommend everyone should do, EMAIL / WRITE / PHONE your Senator / Congressman. Ask them to pull out of the UN and stop funding bigots who hate our First Amendment! The UN only wants US money to stick in their pockets etc.

any bounces? more like a skid? how far did you fly?

have you heard the one about the poor vagrant, who being too disheveled was told at the door,

Having wanted badly to go to church, any church just to find some sort of peace, even just a little, the guy sat down on the steps out front with tears in eyes.

A fellow walks up and asks him what's wrong. The vagrant tells the story, and what he was told.

After hearing the story, the stranger (well dressed as he was) sits down next to the vagrant and starts to sob too.

The vagrant looks him over, sees the decent clothes, and wondering asks the stranger;

The stranger replies;

Ok, ok, you've heard it...lol

LOL
Actually, I dared question the priest about graven images, putting a personal relationship with Jesus after intercession by priests, Mary, etc. and a host of other questions and issues.
The “Father” was not pleased. He informed me that I was not fit to be there.
And so it goes..........

There is one here who has often suggested to those who express questioning/opposition to the very sort of things you mention, to "go talk to a priest".

Mileage can vary..?

[i can't resist asking again, in good humor]

Speaking of mileage, just how far did they throw you?

Not far. I walked away, under my own steam. There was no violence or escort to the gates.
I was left with the impression that I was not sufficiently pliable to be herded and my presence would be incompatible with the indoctrination of others into the cult.

Wrong. Salvation is based upon a relationship with Jesus Christ. More power to you to follow your Catholic doctrine. I don’t.

The Powers that Be will use these kinds of allegations, even 30 - 50 years old, to take down any institution they wish to morally discredit. The charges are at this point incapable of proof or disproof, but no matter: just the accusation itself is a lifelong sliming.

Who will they go after next? My guess would be the Southern Baptists, simply because they're big, and they're on record opposing institutionalized sodomy and infanticide.

The problem is that so many cases of real abuse are true, and were allowed due to failure of oversight and discipline, thus requiring administration from without. Which, in addition to the great harm on the victims, allows the state to stand where it ought not, and before was reluctant to tread, which can be conducive to justifying more intervention, but this time to conform to such things as psychological health standards, under the pretense of the public good.
