Faiths File Amicus Brief on Marriage Cases
Before Tenth Circuit Court

Salt Lake City  —

Five religious organizations, including The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, filed an amicus ("friend-of-the-court") brief today with the United States Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit. The brief addresses two cases before the court that seek to redefine traditional marriage.

The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, National Association of Evangelicals, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission of the Southern Baptist Convention and Lutheran Church — Missouri Synod filed the brief collectively.

An amicus brief (or amicus curiae brief) is filed by individuals or organizations who, while not a party to a lawsuit, have a strong interest in or knowledge of the subject matter. The intent is to provide the court with information about the effects of a decision beyond the parties involved in the case.

"Our faith communities bear no ill will toward same-sex couples, but rather have marriage-affirming religious beliefs that merge with both practical experience and sociological fact to convince us that retaining the husband-wife marriage definition is essential," the brief explains.

From the perspective of each faith's tradition individually, as well as collectively, the brief outlines why "marriage between a man and a woman is sanctioned by God as the right and best setting for bearing and raising children."

The brief also explains why the support of religious organizations and believers for traditional marriage laws “by no stretch undermines their constitutionality” under the federal Establishment Clause.

And the brief concludes that laws protecting traditional marriage “are entitled to be judged on their merits based on settled rules of law — not on a more demanding standard born of suspicion toward religion, religious believers, or their values.”

And oddly enough each dispensation is tied to the political winds of the time.

Sorry do not understand you use of dispensation I was talking about every time the Lord establish his word on earth again.

IMHO this like a game of scrimmage and each the opposition minion got hold of the Lord’s Play book the last time the Lord head it in preserve on the Western hemisphere The Book of Mormon.

During the reign of King Hezekiah 600 BC the children of Lehi left Jerusalem and fled to the Promise Land.

This the record and history of the Book of Mormon

excerpt
The book was written by many ancient prophets by the spirit of prophecy and revelation. Their words, written on gold plates, were quoted and abridged by a prophet-historian named Mormon. The record gives an account of two great civilizations. One came from Jerusalem in 600 B.C. and afterward separated into two nations, known as the Nephites and the Lamanites. The other came much earlier when the Lord confounded the tongues at the Tower of Babel. This group is known as the Jaredites. After thousands of years, all were destroyed except the Lamanites, and they are among the ancestors of the American Indians.

The Plates of Brass brought by the people of Lehi from Jerusalem in 600 B.C. These contained “the five books of Moses, … and also a record of the Jews from the beginning, … down to the commencement of the reign of Zedekiah, king of Judah; and also the prophecies of the holy prophets” (1 Nephi 5:11–13). Many quotations from these plates, citing Isaiah and other biblical and nonbiblical prophets, appear in the Book of Mormon.

The Book of Mormon comprises fifteen main parts or divisions, known, with one exception, as books, usually designated by the name of their principal author. The first portion (the first six books, ending with Omni) is a translation from the small plates of Nephi. Between the books of Omni and Mosiah is an insert called the Words of Mormon. This insert connects the record engraved on the small plates with Mormon’s abridgment of the large plates.

The longest portion, from Mosiah through Mormon chapter 7, is a translation of Mormon’s abridgment of the large plates of Nephi. The concluding portion, from Mormon chapter 8 to the end of the volume, was engraved by Mormon’s son Moroni, who, after finishing the record of his father’s life, made an abridgment of the Jaredite record (as the book of Ether) and later added the parts known as the book of Moroni.

In or about the year A.D. 421, Moroni, the last of the Nephite prophet-historians, sealed the sacred record and hid it up unto the Lord, to be brought forth in the latter days, as predicted by the voice of God through His ancient prophets. In A.D. 1823, this same Moroni, then a resurrected personage, visited the Prophet Joseph Smith and subsequently delivered the engraved plates to him.

About this edition: The original title page, immediately preceding the contents page, is taken from the plates and is part of the sacred text. Introductions in a non-italic typeface, such as in 1 Nephi and immediately preceding Mosiah chapter 9, are also part of the sacred text. Introductions in italics, such as in chapter headings, are not original to the text but are study helps included for convenience in reading.

Some minor errors in the text have been perpetuated in past editions of the Book of Mormon. This edition contains corrections that seem appropriate to bring the material into conformity with prepublication manuscripts and early editions edited by the Prophet Joseph Smith.

But than again some would prefer to hold on to a lie than seek the truth...

I am quite current. You, however espouse the belief in a cult that has been proven time and again just how frought with error and deception it is. Bro. Joseph was a manipulator of a grand order, I will give him that. He even has you fooled. You will be completely surprised when you awake at the judgement seat of Christ and NOT see old Joseph.

But than again some would prefer to hold on to a lie than seek the truth...

Look in the mirror, Hoss. Look in the mirror.

Christ is the truth. Nothing Bro. Joseph has said has ever come to pass and he does not cross the gulf between perfect God and sinful man. Jesus alone does.

Keep your head buried in the sand, to your own peril.

You seem confused, your statement is strange to me, Joseph Smith was always a humble servant to Jesus Christ.

Bro. Joseph was NEVER humble. Nor was he ever a servant. Study his history.
