I then said, in a very shaky voice, "Well, if it's a symbol, to hell with it."

Catholics don't apply this reasoning to Genesis 1-11, however.

The first line of the post. Is something else needed?

I’d say get over it. Catholic doctrine has been developed over thousands of years. I am unaware of anyone’s Catholicism being called into question in recent times over the intricacies of Church teaching on Mary. I can’t help it that a bunch of heretics jumped ship on the one Church founded by Christ through his disciple Peter.

Said with all Christian love. I suppose some folks think when they pass God will be there and check their card in the wrong column regarding what their church taught on Mary, and off they go to Hell. Seems highly unlikely to me.

971, 517 and 516 call it Maritan prayer. That settles the ongoing debate that praying to Mary is not prayer. Says it right there in along with worship and feast day. If that is not worship...

By what method of exegesis do you arrive at the conclusion that the bible contains the whole of Divine Revelation?

I never really got that impression from Roman Catholics outside of this forum.

>>Queen of Heaven and Earth.<<

A title that does have a Biblical basis but not in a good sense:

Jeremiah 44:15-19 DRA

Then all the men that knew that their wives sacrificed to other gods: and all the women of whom there stood by a great multitude, and all the people of them that dwelt in the land of Egypt in Phatures, answered Jeremias, saying:

As for the word which thou hast spoken to us in the name of the Lord, we will not hearken to thee: But we will certainly do every word that shall proceed out of our own mouth, to sacrifice to the queen of heaven, and to pour out drink offerings to her, as we and our fathers have done, our kings, and our princes in the cities of Juda, and in the streets of Jerusalem: and we were filled with bread, and it was well with us, and we saw no evil.

But since we left off to offer sacrifice to the queen of heaven, and to pour out drink offerings to her, we have wanted all things, and have been consumed by the sword, and by famine. And if we offer sacrifice to the queen of heaven, and pour out drink offerings to her: did we make cakes to worship her, to pour out drink offerings to her, without our husbands?

when you canonize one unbiblical teaching it opens the door to canonize others; once error is accepted as ‘gospel’ other errors are easier to accept.

The queen of heaven is mentioned in the Bible. But not within a good context:

Here’s one source:

Exodus 20:1-6 DRA

And the Lord spoke all these words: I am the Lord thy God, who brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.

Thou shalt not have strange gods before me. Thou shalt not make to thyself a graven thing, nor the likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or in the earth beneath, nor of those things that are in the waters under the earth.

Thou shalt not adore them, nor serve them: I am the Lord thy God, mighty, jealous, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children, unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me: And shewing mercy unto thousands to them that love me, and keep my commandments.

No problem. It’s a fantastic Bible. Another example is the notation about Jer 44:18.

The people had stopped burning incense to the queen of heaven (as a result of King Josiah’s reform movement, which had begun in 621 B.C.) But beginning with Josiah’s death in 609 a series of disasters, including invasion and exile, had struck Judah. The people understandably (though mistakenly) attributed their misfortune to their failure to worship the queen of heaven.

We only have to go to 2Chron 35 for the rest of the story.

It’s a great Bible.

Ever hear of the Immaculate Conception? I doubt that you would believe it. But Mary was chosen by God to be sinless so that she could carry the sinless Jesus in her womb. She is the Ark of the New Covenant.

Have you ever asked anyone to pray for you? That’s asking intercession.

At the Wedding of Cana, Mary told Jesus that the couple was out of wine. She interceded for them.

Then her last words in the Bible: “Do whatever he tells you.”

An excellent explanation. Thank you.

Would you like to elaborate on the development of Marian worship?

Who prays to Luther? Who prays to their church? That was an inadequate analogy.
