The 50 minute meeting between Pope Francis and Barack Obama has ended. The President commented on how wonderful it was to be in the Vatican again
It is a great honour. I'm a great admirer. Thank you so much for receiving me, the US President, Barack Obama said at the start of his meeting with Pope Francis in the Vatican Apostolic Palace. The meeting lasted just under one hour (from 10:28 to 11:20). After this, the Pope was introduced to the Presidents entourage and gifts were exchanged between the two leaders. The two were then photographed as per custom and Francis gave some rosaries to members of the entourage.
The Pope welcomed Obama in the Small Throne Room, where the head of state arrived accompanied by the Prefect of the Papal Household, Mgr. Georg Ganswein. Wonderful meeting you, Obama said, meeting the Pope, who responded by thanking him.
Obama, accompanied by the US Secretary of State, John Kerry, was taken through to the second loggia of the Apostolic Palace by the Prefect of the Papal Household.
Its wonderful being here again, the President said, greeting one of the Papal Gentlemen upon his arrival in the Vatican, where he met with Benedict XVI back in 2009.
In reference to the Popes Apostolic Exhortation Evangeliii Gaudium, President Obama said he would probably read it in the Oval Office when he gets really frustrated. He added he was sure it would give him strength and calm . I hope so, Francis replied.
President Obama gave Francis a packet of vegetable seeds from the White House garden to be planted in the Pontifical Villa gardens in Castel Gandolfo which were recently opened to the public. "If you have a chance to come to the White House, we can show you our garden, the President said. Of course! the Pope replied.
Before taking his leave, Obama gave Francis a long and firm handshake and the two continued speaking for a while longer with the help of an interpreter.
After his audience with the Pope, the President went down to the first loggia to meet the Vatican Secretary of State, Cardinal Pietro Parolin.
He already did, last November. They discussed defending the rights of Christians, IIRC.
And like everything else, Obama didn't buy those seeds. We did.
Unlike Islamic potentates, Obama did not bow to the Pope.
He must speak Spanish as well after living in S.A. most his life.
Did Obama bow to the Pope? He should have, but probably did not. This is the one person that he should have bowed to, and not all the dictators that he did bow to.
So, he saw the Pope in the small Throne room?
I hope Obama is ready for the White Throne Judgment.
A packet of seeds from his man-wife. Perfect!
"Just head out the back door, past the piles of stinking garbage. Go towards the 'Danger-High Lead Levels' warning sign. You can't miss it."
Obama kinda bowed his head to Francis.
I hope the Pope tossed 'em. How much you wanna bet those seeds didn't face any Dept. of Agriculture scrutiny in either Country. They're probably infested with some kind of parasite that will infest the garden, endlessly travel, be impervious to any attempt to rid it from its stronghold and quickly drain the Vatican of its cash.
Francis will probably attend the World Meeting of Families in Philadelphia in September 2015. He has expressed an interest in doing so. If he does, he might also speak at the UN. Will he take Obama up on his invitation to visit the White House? Who knows? It was such a warm atmosphere when Pope Benedict visited the White House on his 81st birthday in 2008. President Bush had a birthday cake prepared for the Pope and “Happy Birthday” was sung.
I like that idea!
The liberals like to portray Barry Bathhouse as a genius, but reading every word that comes out his mouth from a cue card tells the real story. He supposedly graduated from Ivy League schools and can’t utter a phrase in any other language.
In addition to his native Spanish, Francis is conversant in Latin (the official language of the Holy See), Italian (the official language of Vatican City and the “everyday language” of the Holy See), he understands the Piedmontese dialect and some Genoese, German,French, Portuguese, English, and Ukrainian. He is “most comfortable” in Spanish, but is also “completely fluent” in Italian.
Am sure the Pope urged Obama to reconsider his anti Christian views on abortion, gay marriage and the removal of God`s Word from the public square etc.
Am sure the Pope shared Scripture with Obama on all this
NO I AM BEINC SARC cause the Pope doesnt give a hoot
When Francis dances with me
And I get a free rosary
I feel nearer his God
But I'm still on jihad
So it's back to the prayer rug for me
Leni
Well, the pope has met the devil.
Didn't Boehner also invite him to address Congress?
Very good.
